We are thinking of upgrading televisions. We don't watch a lot of TV so don't want to spend a fortune, but we do need a new system with a new sound system as our current one plays through old scratchy speakers through a stereo system.
What are your thoughts on LCD vs Plasma HD tv's? We are checking out a Panasonic 50".
We just bought a 32" Polaroid LCD TV with a built-in DVD player and with ports for USB and SD memory card, plus other connectors. They have them in larger sizes and they're reasonably priced for what you get. The picture is gorgeous!
There is a good article comparing the two technologies here in this CNET article: [HYPERLINK@asia.cnet.com]
Candee, we're semi-looking also and I found some great information on the Best Buy web site a few days ago. It went through a discussion of Plasma vs LCD, HDTV and what makes it high-def, auxiliary equipment, and basically answered a lot of questions I had about them. There is also a section on aspect area, size of the TV vs viewing distances, and many other topics I found interesting.
Good luck!
Elaine
We decided on the Panasonic HDTV Plasma 50" and let me tell you it is fabulous. I also sprang for the Harmony 880 Universal remote and I think I'll actually start watching TV more than usual as it is a whole new world of entertainment!
Are you still happy with your plasma? We've found with our plasma it has a buzz to it that LCD doesn't and are going to make a switch soon. If you have the TV loud enough (as in with surround sound :) the buzz is no issue but mute the TV and you can for sure hear the buzz. Is this common with your brand or no?
We are not hearing any buzz with our panasonic and we have the surround sound and often watch with the sound way down. We really like the fact that it also does not reflect the light from the room, be careful of that with the LCD as I hear it can be a problem.
haighr, its usually the other way around; i.e., plasma usually reflects windows, lights and other things in the room more that LCD. LCD doesn't do that, which is a plus for LCD. Its the reason we decided not to go with the plasma.
Hum, I am generally wrong, but would have sworn that is what they told us and our plasma is in a room full of windows and lights and we don't get any reflection on the screen. Even when we turn on a lamp you cannot see it on the screen?
