We're purchasing our very first electric dehydrator this year as we've always used the oven. What are some of your favorite foods to dry?

I make my own pepper blend.

Dry several types of hot and sweet peppers, grind the results and store. When you make your own blends, you can control the heat.

BBQ rubs are great too...pepper, celery, onion, tomato slices...whatever you desire...dry and grind. Makes great rubs...or soup seasoning...

I have 2 big dehydrators and absolutely love them!

My mother always used a dehydrator the size of a small microwave. They've gotten smaller over the years. I want one. There was information in this article that I didn't know, such as anything about conditioning. Never heard of that!

Still love reading your tips, Paul.

Wonderful tips. Any time I have tried to dry herbs and such I end up with mould. I might have to give it another try.

If you're getting mold they are dry enough. Dry them for a little longer time period.

Bought a dehydrator years ago..made one batch of beef jerky..never used it again. Your series has me wanting to try some fruit and other things. Now if only I can remember where i stored it...
Thanks for some good ideas!

I purchased the round type dehydrator years ago but it doesnot seem to make the products very stiff. I leave them in for a long time , longer than recipe calls for but they are still soft. What is your opinion of the excalibur dehydrators. They are more expensive but I am wondering if they would dry better since the blower is in the back. I have read good reviews on them so far.
