Good Morning,
I need help I have a home that has been extensively added on to for 75+ years:). My current problem is that between the formal dining room and the "playroom" is an opening, 47.25" x ~80". Just enough to make a standard pre-hung door too big for the opening. We need to close off the room when we entertain (big dogs), but don't know which way to go. Do we try to enlarge the opening (sounds like a solid wall, was once the exterior of the house) put in a smaller (36") door and "fill in", or try for a custom door? HD was no help at all, and I don't have a clue where else to go. We need to do the work ourselves so please consider the suggestions need to be geared towards idiots (although my SO will disagree).
Thanks for your help,

Probably the easiest is a 36" door & fill in, depending on what the wall is. You can cut off the new door to make it fit the height. (Door will be 81½" or so.)
