I've been waiting for Part 3! I spotted it this morning and stopped to make coffee so I could sit down sipping a fresh cuppa and really enjoy it... and I did! :-)

The bit about jousting hummingbirds reminded me of an incident last summer that put my heart in my throat... Two ruby-throat males were having a "dogfight" on the back deck, and one of them suddenly zipped toward the patio door and got his beak stuck in the screen! He was stuck, quivering, like a cartoon hummingbird in a dart board. I dashed to grab a rag that was next to the sink, thinking that I'd need to gently wrap him (or at least cover his head) so he'd be calm enough for me to get him unstuck... but fortunately, 3 seconds later as I was going toward the door, he managed to buzz himself loose. Whew!

Great questions you asked with interesting answers! It is nice to have a definitive word on some of the myths about hummingbirds.
