Hello everyone. We moved into a new house last winter and I had our fireplace going pretty much non stop. How often do you need to call a professional sweep and what should I look for?...Basically how do I know if they are yanking my chain on something? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I just now read your message. We started having a chimney sweep come the first year we had our new house. He comes every year. It costs about $50.00 a year. Our insurance pays $35.00 back to us. It is so worth it. He cleans the chimney outside and then comes inside and cleans the fireplace including the glass doors on it. He usually calls us in the spring as he likes to get a head start on the season. He has gone to college during the time since 2000 and now works as a school teacher and is working on his masters degree in agriculture. His father used to come with him and made sure he did it right. Now his wife comes and visits with us while he does his work. I guess living in the country has its worth. I would recomend cleaning every year.

I've never met a 'sweep' that yanked a chain.
It is pretty obvious if they have done the job.
Lots of crud is taken out and the fireplace / woodstove burns cleaner.
