This is Dave's special smiley that he revealed to everyone in the Daves Garden Forum a while back. Somewhere in the DG FAQ there is basic info on how to do things like bold and italics and such. Other than that I'm not aware of any others. There are web sites where you can download all kinds of emoticons, but I don't think they work here at DG.

Once you access the character map, does it then become more accessible by just pushing the button to look at all programs? Once I have done that, it stays there unless so many things have been called up after it that it would not have priority.

Just a test, & a reminder note to myself (or anyone else this might help). . .

First: Remember to press the NUMBER LOCK KEY.

Apparently, the combinations of numbers (& characters) are ENDLESS as long as you RELEASE THE ALT KEY between each set of numbers (between each character).

    The SUN character is Really Cool! ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ (alt plus 15).

After a while, I lost interest (short attention span???), but I was typing numbers over 100,000 & still getting characters, although there are long spans (don't remember where) when all you get are large letters or numbers in sequence.

The problem with all those combinations is I don't have a clue which numbers created which characters!!

Evelyn, did you do anything different to get that yellow smiley?

As recent as July 24th (in this thread) I was doing some testing and it showed up just fine. Now when I type 6 underscore 6 with the shift key pressed the whole time, I get what's on the keys, not the smiley face...:-) (unless after hitting "send" it changes to a "smiley face"). It doesn't show up when I click on "preview".

I'll see if it changes after hitting "send".

Edited to say...AHA! It doesn't show up until you actually hit "send" so there isn't a way to pre-check it. Thanks...My mistake!

Just because computer with different OS's do different things, or have slightly different ways of doing them. Do you have a character map? (Click on the "start button" area and type in character and it will bring it up, if you have one.) There you will find more than enough fonts, characters, and "wing dings"...

On other computers, it is called a "bit map".

I still have Win Vista and have kept Explorer 8 since I preferred it ove EX 9. Maybe, eventually I will have to update it, but for now, it works just fine.

Thanks! I appreciate it but right now I'm not having any luck. If I go into the fonts in Works I can find all the characters I could ever use, but then I'd have to transfer them to a thread, somehow, which is more hassle than it's worth. Since we plan to get a new computer soon, maybe I'll check then. In the meantime, I'm fine with the ALT chart.

    Thanks, anyway!
