Can spray foam insulation be used to seal large holes between granite fieldstone? The brand my husband is using is "Great Stuff" and the hole is about 2" diameter with clearly visible daylight. We get a lot of water through this hole. I say water will seep through, he says it won't.

It will, and worse than that, it will stay wet. Use mortar, it's cheaper anyway.

Great Stuff is an exercise in frustration. It is so sticky it takes a week to wear off any flesh that comes in contact with it. The cans are either too small or too big for whatever task one tackles. AND - you cannot save it - use it now or toss it away.

Best use I have found for it was to fill a void and secure some hardware cloth to prevent access from some rodents. Space was too small to use a hammer or stapler, but Great Stuff was my superglue. Remembered to wear old clothes, long sleeves, and gloves.

Thanx claypa and Bubba. My DH went ahead and did it anyway, I will post the outcome after the first rain and again after the NH snow melt in spring.
