Found my local Stitching group(s) through Ravelry.
Anyone listen to Cast-On or other knitterly podcasts?

| I went to http://www.ravelry.com and they have this message posted on the front page:
| Quoted: | Don't have an account?
Sign up for an invitation.
Ravelry will open to the public someday but we aren't ready yet. We send out 500 - 800 invitations daily and there are currently 6,188 people waiting for their invites.
Add your name to the list. |
Did you have to wait for an invitation?

| Yes
You wait for an invitation after you add your name to the list. I had to wait 6 weeks but the list is going a lot faster now... I think it is just a couple of weeks. |

| I waited two weeks for my invitation. I haven't really posted anything on the site yet.
The link to the privacy policy wasn't working when I signed up. I'd like to see what they are doing with my information before I share too much of it.
Otherwise, it is a very interesting site. |

| I've been off DG for months, but I'm glad to see you guys are on RAvelry. I had to wait about 3 months for my invite, and now I need a 12-step program for it! LOL!
Here's a recent FO: Rebecca's Touch of Whimsy Scarf. I also just finished my Veronik Avery's lacey Oblique cardigan and can't WAIT to post it! It's over 90 degrees here, it will take some acting to look comfortable in the pics. ;o) Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Hi, I've been on Ravelry since last (a year ago) August. My Ravelry name is
MorningGlory if you want to take a look. I'm more into knitting than anything
else. Especially socks. I always have socks on the needles because they
are so portable. I love knitting lace also. Do you have any ufo's? I have
several and need to finish them but keep running into new patterns that
I want to try. What are your problems with knitting? |

| I'm on Ravelry as happpybuela. I have been horrible about updating my projects page, but the thing I use it for most is to find inspiration and patterns, and sometimes help with something in particular. I think of Ravelry as Dave's Garden for knitters and crocheters... only not as good for community.
Just like it's hard to garden when we're on Dave's, it's hard to get some knitting when you're on Ravelry. I always keep some knitting with me to pass time in a doctor's office, a long line at the Post Office, for long drives when I'm lucky enough to have someone else driving, and for when it's too cold and too dark to garden! There are always snippets of time that I can be productive by having some knitting with me.
I'm working on my very first sweater - started it around last March or April, but put it down when it started to warm up here - about March or April, lol. Only have about half of both sleeves to go, then the button band and seaming (both of those scare me!) It's getting cooler here now though, so... I'm motivated to pick it back up.

| I'm on Ravelry as RuTemple (same as here at DG); I'm more of a spinner and weaver, and do fiber baskets, but like the community (local) found through Ravelry (online) so much that I keep involved by updating a list of local open sessions / gatherings of fiber artists of various kinds (mainly knitters, as it happens) around the SF Bay Area.
I'd like to connect with any Ravelry / Dave's Garden users, and see what projects you're up to as well as hearing about your gardening! |

| Ru, are you going to Stitches in February? Perhaps we could manage a DG meetup there.
I'll admit that I don't really spend a log of time on Ravelry anymore. I'll go there if I need to find a pattern, or ideas for some yarn I have, maybe some technical help. Ravelry just doesn't seem as friendly and fun as DG. Perhaps I haven't found the right forum there. |

| Sigh! It must be nice to have a Stitches so close to you. I suppose they think the deep south is too hot for knitters, but the temps don't keep us down!
Ru, thanks for introducing yourself on Ravelry. It's really neat to find DG'ers there! |

| XRX introduced a Stitches South in Atlanta, although from Texas it seems like Stitches Midwest in Illinois may be closer to you. Atlanta may have more warmer weather topics.

January 05, 2009 09:47 PM Post #5971259
| That's right, I forgot about the one in Atlanta. Basically, I want them to have a Stitches across the street from me, so I can just walk right over. :-)
I'm not much of a lacy girl (it doesn't do well with my body shape, lol), but i do like to knit with cotton/cotton blends, and we really do need plenty of warm knitted goods to protect us from the freezing summer office temps, freezing grocery stores, and freezing movie theaters.
We were just visiting family in the snowy NM mountains between Christmas and New Years, it was so great to knit a bunch of warm earflap hats to keep everyone warm. They loved them, and I'm still getting requests!

| Well, you could always lobby XRX for a Texas Stitches, or at least a Camp Stitches located in Texas and focused on warm weather/summer knits. I've seen some nice tops with lace inserts that were cool but still modest. Perhaps they'll take up the challenge...tell them warm weather knits are needed for climate change. |

| Asking can only do good, or at least no harm! Liek any biz, XRX will go where there's enough of an interest base.
I think the yarn train is a brilliant idea for those who can: it's a premium-ticket CalTrain starting at Sacramento going to San Jose, with focus on knitters and swag bags (with contents worth more than the premium extra on the ticket, it sounds like) -- gets folks there, on transit, and all ready to roll. |

| Well if any of you do come to Stitches West, please stop by my booth and say hi. My spring yarn collection is almost finished. I showed it this past weekend at a show I did in Pasadena. A few of my newest colors sold out in one day so I am quite proud of this collection. I'm also working on my patterns for Stitches, but I don't know how many of them I will have ready in time.

| Maggiemoo, I'm near you and I second that! I'm so jealous of the Stitches crowd! BTW, do you have the same name on Ravelry? If so, I LOVE your avatar!
What is everyone's favorite thing to knit/crochet? I love socks, I always have one or two going, especially lacy ones. The next favorite is dog sweaters, I've made several, this is my latest and is now my avatar on Ravelry. It's Paton's Dogosaurus Rex. My ravelry project page is here: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Arielluria/dogosaurus-rex
