I have a great Royal canister and love using those swiffers. But in my mostly tiled home I would like a nice small vac to quickly do the rugs between heavy cleaning. I can go through the tile in about 20-30 minutes with a swiffer but then have to drag out the big vac for the rugs. If you have a small one that you really like, please tell me about it!

By far the Hoover Nano is my favorite. I have hard wood floors and vinyl. Three kids, three birds, two cats (one of which sheds constantly) a husband, 20 best friends (ages 10-17) and the little vac does the job. It will get up dust bunnies from the hard wood, and then suck up the big stuff off the carpeted areas. I don't work for Hoover, but I have owned a LOT of vacs. I bought a Dyson, and I would gladly send it back to the guy if he'd... well this is a family forum. It just pushed the dirt to the wall. The reason it don't clog is it don't pick up.

Thanks! I thought I would never get any answers. I have a friend who loves that Dyson so much. But they are neither small nor really for hard surfaces so I haven't tried one. Will go check out the Nano!

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Well, I love my Electrolux--it's not overly large and has the power head for carpets and the broom attachment for floors, it isn't too heavy to use on the carpeted stairs either. My Mom has had hers since she was married, 1959.

Thanks, I do want something small and lightweight for quickly doing the rugs. I already have a wonderful Royal for the big jobs. After trying and returning several already, I thought maybe I would get reviews here that might help my search. For example, I got one that had the air exhaust blow right to the floor so it blew the cat hairs away from it. I returned it immediately!

cactus, i really love my Shark handheld, which is electric, not battery operated. So it packs a punch & comes with a couple of attachments, just enough to be useful but not so many that it's a commitment to figure out which one is needed.

I also use it to vacuum up ladybugs & spiders because they get caught against the filter without damage & I can safely transport them outside.
