I'm now starting my bedroom and planned on doing some type faux (paint) finish on the walls. However, I found the bedding I like which is rather elegant looking in gold and cream tones. So, I'm thinking of solid burgundy walls to make the bedding/curtains really jump out at 'ya.

Has anyone done a room in burgundy wallpaint with gold curtains/bedding etc that they could show me?

Thx

Hey Seedsower; I'm a decorative painter and I think I know the look you're going for. I don't have any pictures, but here's what I'd suggest; If you go with a dark burgundy, make sure you use a high quality paint (like Benjamin Moore - About $40 a gallon, but worth it) and not something from Home Depot. What you save in paint costs you make up for in coats of paint. If you use a tinted primer ahead of time, you should get good coverage with two coats. With no primer and cheap paint, you can use 5 or 6 coats and it will still look awful. As for the gold, I'd suggest a gold glaze as a stencil over the red; it will still read as gold, but it will be much more subtle. You can use Acrylic gloss medium mixed with acrylic gold paint and apply that over a stencil. You could try to find a stencil that matches the pattern of your fabric. Just some thoughts, I hope it works for you!

Hey, I just scrolled down and saw the pictures you posted of the finished room! Looks great. (I didn't look at the date of your original post) Hope you had fun!

Funny! The photo you probably saw was of the guest room I did the prior year.

I did finish my room...finally, and ended up with a totally different color scheme. Thanks for your suggestion/help though!

Sandy
