Oh my, Oh my. I leave Terri's cafe for a few days, and, WOW, a new thread was created off of mine, and already filled up!! You are all wonderful and I must take the time to go through all the new fancies you have added to the wonderful cafe'. I am glad Janet was around to keep things running in my absence. Thank you, for I would hate to think the customers were neglected. So much talent in here and the outside is coming along swimmingly. Thank you all for such fantastic contributions.

I hope all have noticed, the wonderful creator of this virtual cafe', Terriculture is back. I can't wait for her to provide us with some lovely flower art for the walls. Terri, I am sorry, I haven't kept up the place, but I think everything is going well. I will be sure to stay on top of things from here on out.

So pull up a chair, have a wonderful refresher, and keep those creative juices flowing.

Not a problem Zen. I see that I will need to make a new thread about every two days with all the ideas on here. I think that will be a way for me to keep it organized a bit too. Might even try one every morning, but seems a little too ambitious at the moment. If I did, it would give a fresh start on the conversations, so you don't have to try to scroll down 100 posts. I would love some feedback from anyone who frequents our place. Thanks so much and for dropping in, grab a fresh cup of any of the great teas we serve. I would recommend the Rooibos aka known as Red Tea. Rooibos is a flavorful, caffeine-free tea with forest berries.

Wuvie, I think you really need to look at the nice young lady. I am afraid "she" is a bit confused. In the pet area, I have separated areas for different animals. So, please bring your dogs, as they will be seperate from the stew...I mean rabbit. There is a waitress assigned to cater just to the animals, so they are in good hands.

Zen, I love my RED BULL. Can't function without it in the morning. I just thought the tea sounded very classy, so I added it to the menu. I will be sure to have more variety of the caffinated sort soon.

As owner, Terri, what do you think about a new thread every other day? All others please chime in too. I know it was much easier reading this one, as it was shorter. All ideas are welcome, that's the beauty of the cafe'

Don't forget to fall back your clocks tonight. An extra hour to sleep. I must run out and bring all my plants in as we are getting down to 40*. I hate cold weather.

I have put both my pets in the animal area.

Ok Folks, I'm back from the Texas Renaissance Festival. My hubby and I had a wonderful time. I'll post a few photos of cool stuff that we saw there. I've created a thread in the Texas Gardening forum because I had never seen one there for the festival. Here is a link for more photos of the Festival. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/786911/

Everywhere we went I saw artisans with their crafts. From stained glass artists to copper burning artists, paper makers, to glass blowers. It was a mighty fun time we both had.

Here is a sign outside of one of the stained glass shops.

Her tips will be hurting otherwise?! lol...sue I do have a general question...do all things (artwise) posted, have to be serious art forms? Many crafts are artforms themselves. The creativity involved is always fascinating. That's one of the reasons I went to that forum and posted the invitation. Please share yours with us. We all love to learn new things. And we all love to be enticed by enablers. :-)

At the Festival yesterday, there was a place called the Guttenburg Press. They made their own paper there. A young man was demonstrating the printing press for me. He dabbed two knobby things that were filled with hair and covered in fabric into the ink. Then rubbed them together. He coated the metal plate that sat inside of a wooden frame. He placed the paper in the little holders that were attached to the "frit" I think he called it. Then the paper went down over the plate. The big frame slid under another mechanism. He pulled on the big handle and a big contraption came down to print the ink to the paper. I asked him if that was the hand made paper. He laughed and said no. I said, Oh you use the cheap stuff for the tourists? He grinned and said yes. Then he handed me the finished print. I asked him to sign it for me. He asked if I had a pen. I told him, no I didn't bring my purse with me. Would he mind just putting his thumb in the ink and signing it that way. As he was doing it, he said to me (eyebrows knitted) you're not going to steal my identity are you? HAHAHAHAHA That is my one souvenir from the Festival. Well, there is the grain of rice that has both mine and my hubby's name on it.

You know, now that you mentioned hair, I've got to tell you about these ceramic pieces I saw that had Horsehair on them, she said she puts the horsehair last and it melts in the kiln. now, I don't know a thing about kilns or ceramics, but I gotta tell you , they were gorgeous animals whith what looked like beautiful squiggly lines.( I even think she said she dipped some of the hairs in liquid gold) . Very expensive but beautiful.

Have you all heard about that process?

Wuvie, I got an idea for Gourds/ornamental squash would work too, to preserve the shapes, Paint them with some concrete slurry, you would have to put lots of coats and then Add a Face..

I'm dying to try that next, but have a date with the Tile Saw..

Thank you Connie for reminding me about the red swans. I had so many threads to look at when we got home last night and I was just so tired that I didn't reply on any of them. I saw the swans and made a mental note (we ALL know how those mental notes get lost) to be sure and say something about it today. Robert, the red is beautiful. I love the way the blue picks up the reflections and angles. Outstanding job!!

Speaking of outstanding jobs, Connie, that rug turned out wonderful! I'm so glad the sheets were still there Friday morning when I stopped by there. The colors you put with the red are wonderful for that little area there by the coffee pot. Little dog looks like she's enjoying having something hand made too.

I laughed when you posted about the sensory overload there and blamed it on poor Wuvie, who we know would nevah in her life do such a thing. Neither would Little Dog though. Yeah right, I've had that happen with my own dog. When Grace was a pup, I'd given her a bite of some sirloin steak. Later that night I was on the computer, with her in my lap. All of a sudden this incredibly stinky aroma arose from my lap. I knew without a doubt it wasn't ME, so it could only have been Grace. Shuddering as I remember the scent. Of course, Tink follows me around the house like she thinks I'm gonna poot and she's gonna miss it. HAHAHAHA

Cheryl, Connie's right, that IS a mighty lot of fur ya got there. I can only imagine how quickly my bagless container on the vacuum would fill up with those babies around. It's bad enough with just Grace and Tink.

We all have got some very beautiful animals around here. It's a dern good thing they all get along so well. Thanks Traci for hiring such a good person to wait on them. I hope they don't get spoiled with the designer animal treats in the bowl there.

IIIII'm Baaack! Oh where to start, where to start. Every one happy so far. Terri has sunk a lot of money into this cafe' and I want it to be a ship shape cafe, where all your creative juices can flow. Please let me know if you need anything.

As the last thread was just to hard to follow, I will start my comments on this page of works.

First, the Red Swans are GORGEOUS!! I wish there were red swans in real life. I would build a pond just for them. Janet, love the pics and went to the link. Looks like ya'll had a wonderful time. The Butterfly should be hanging in my garden this minute. Such talent.

EVERYONE, SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JANET!!!

Gourd, I don't have enough time to say what all I love about your place!! I want to visit. It is breathtaking and your talent is endless. Thanks for another shot of my froggies. I showed Chef DH and he had a fit over them. Your wall and patio area are amazing. The "window" with your kitty is perfect. She looks like she belongs there. I want to come to your house to play. I bet it is lots of fun.

Denim, Get the vaccuum out!! I love everyone one of them. Puppy kisses are great. Do they greet you at the door everyday? I love all out furry friends who have come to take advantage of the their special area in the cafe. It was a great idea, Terri.

Weeds "wish I had some dandylions to show you, but they are gone", I love paper crafting. I have tons of paper cuttings I ordered, framed and hanging up. Please share yours, as paper crafting is another form of art. If we had a way to hear on DG, I would invite all musicians too.

Terri, beautiful as always. Would you bring in you sunflower packets series to hang up. I thought them very clever!

Zen, I think I will start a new one every two days, to see how that works. I will make one the night before. It has been two days and there are tons of posts, so look for a new one tomorrow.

Zen,I also went out and got you some plain ole, fully loaded coffee. Do you need cream or sugar. Here you go!

Must go check on my pets. Will be back soon.

Gosh Traci!!! Thanks so much. But you shouldn't have gone to so much trouble on those yummies! It's a good thing they actually have to be ingested to put the pounds on or I'd be looking for some new jeans just from looking at them. They are mahvelous Dahling!

Traci, I think when the thread gets to be 100 posts, it ought to be renewed. That's about the time it gets unwieldy for anyone on dial up. (Or so I've heard) Just be sure to put a link TO the new thread in the one being replaced, along with a link IN the new thread FROM the previous one. That way, anyone who comes along late to the party can follow along, or go back, as needed. You know what I mean, so I'll quit explaining!

For my birthday, Connie brought me some beautiful glasses with cobalt blue dots in them. They're beautiful. I'll try to remember to get a photo to show you all how pretty they are. Also, she brought me 4 lovely plant markers for my herb garden. I'm not sure if they are clay or resin, but they sure are pretty.

Rickly Mortis (my dear hubby) has got the grill going with chicken, ribs & boudain. I'm making a salad to go along with that and Mrs. Smith brought over a beautiful Dutch Apple Crumb Pie for later on. Both kids of mine are coming by to visit with the babies later. We'll all have a good time. I just checked on the pie and it sure smells good in the kitchen. Don't you wish your monitor had smell technology! HAHAHAHA

Yummy cupcake Traci. Thanks for that. I blew out the candle so my wish oughta come true!

I'm gonna pass on the sushi, hard as it is to do, because I want to do justice to hubby's cooking later.

I may have to borrow that beautiful bowl Cheryl to put my pie on after while. It's simply stunning the way the light reflects on it.

Speaking of stunning, someone posted some pottery in the other thread. I meant to comment on that then and then I slept. That pottery reminds me of the pottery I saw at the Festival. I was mesmerized by all of the beautiful swirls in the colors of the platters, etc. I've always loved that style of pottery and have picked up several really nice pieces at thrift stores that I know are hand made. Once again, I'm thankful they didn't like it or had too much. (big cheesy grin here) Pottery is one of the things I always look for when I shop the thrift stores. I guess some folks don't like it, and that's their prerogative. I just love it!!!

Sue, she's just beautiful! I have always loved angels and yours is exceptionally pretty!

Traci, I'm glad to see Miss Teensy's beautiful face in that one. She made a beautiful witch!

Zen, I've added baked potatoes to the table and some hard boiled eggs to go into the salad. Sausage was also added to the grill. The main reason we cook so much when we grill is because it's all great leftover. This keeps me from having to cook during the week. :-)

Uggggggghhhh Just got up from the table and waddled in here. My Goodness that was a whole lot of great food! But you're right. The leftovers will be most excellent. We've always done that any time we fire up the grill. No sense in wasting all that cook heat. We love smoked boudain. Unfortunately, one of the boudains dropped as he was pulling it from the grill. It took an act of congress to keep Grace from scarfing on it. We planned on giving it to her, but geez Louize, it's not worth scalding your tongue and the roof of your mouth over! She waited patiently (for Grace) until it had cooled down.

Gotta let some of this settle down before we cut into the pie. Too bad I've already taken my 10 minute power nap today or I'd take another one!

Zen, I didn't know what boudain was until we moved here 28 years ago. We never heard of it in San Antonio. It's something I almost always have in the fridge because we all like it. It's quick to fix for the girls if they stop by. We fix it many different ways. We smoke it on the grill or take off the skin, slice it thinly and fry it in a skillet with fried eggs. I've also put it on top of scrambled eggs on one of those already baked pizza crusts, cover it with cheese and you've got a breakfast pizza that is great for "to go" purposes. Recently I had some leftover smoked boudain. I took off the skin and sliced it in 4 strips length wise and put it on buttered toast for a sandwich. I could have sold those and made a fortune. I've taken leftover boudain and put it in soups also. The seasonings in it are wonderful. I'm really surprised that it's not on more menus around here.

Something else that we dearly love, but it's very rare to have is scrapple. We had it in Virginia and loved it. I only found it here one time, at a hole in the wall grocery store that isn't in business any more. I'd pay dern good money for some scrapple! HAHAHA If you don't know what it is, it's the leftovers from butchering a hog, mixed with cornmeal and other seasonings, and made into a pudding. Then it's poured into cake pans and when it gets solid, it's cut into bricks. When you cook it, you slice it about 1/4 inch thick, dredge it in flour and fry it quickly. It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and if you put that with some fried eggs, you'd think you'd died and gone to heaven! :-)

I do believe I'm going to have to see if I can find it on line somewhere. Mom and Daddy used to bring it to us from Virginia.

I'm still full so I'll quit talking about food. HAHAHA

That vase is beautiful cactusfan. I can see the gold hairs veining it to look like marble and the copper around the rim. Really a pretty piece. What a nice brother you have.

Thanks everyone. I don't think I could have crafted a better piece of art.

Cactusfan, Do you grow cactus? ;^) The pot is amazing. I have never heard or seen anything like it before. The simple copper ring just sets it off. I have looked at it several times, thinking is that really hair? It is definitely a treasure. I do hope someone give it a try. I can only imagine what ideas ya'll could come up with. I did notice Gourd said the "Expensive" word. I wonder if it is the uniqueness of it or if it is difficult to do.

Gourd, do you like gourds? I love every aspect of your yard. I keep looking at the photos and notice where you have put different little accents throughout. I wonder how many pieces are just the stone and how many are artwork. I noticed where the lizard was and also on your new bench, is that some tile with pictures? I would walk around and try to make shapes, like looking at clouds. I have to say also, I was surprised when you mention DH. I made the stupid assumption you were a man. Rare is it seen that a woman works with such size pieces. I was in construction for 15 years and never ran into another female contractor. KUDOS to you and teach that tile saw a lesson or two. If I have made the wrong assuption again, I apologize.

I am so glad ya'll got off the food subject. Sorry Janet, but I couldn't even read all your post. I know two things I won't be trying out. Weak stomache here, I must admit. I can't watch some commercials. lol.

I will post a new thread before I go to be this evening which is usually no earlier that 12 central. See you soon. Here is our variety of ice creams we have. I will let ya'll have a round on the house, since Terri is not here. looking around furtively

This is Gourd guys, well, this was last year Sept. of 2006, we were packing and moving/selling the house and almost left everything behind.. No, we don't have any parties,,lol., i am a loner most of the time, so it is good to participate here in the forums... unfortunately, to me, a clean pair of jeans and a clean T-shirt, baseball cap, and I've got it made..lol.. i basically look the same, more gray hair under my hat.

I/we want to have a place where we can r&r, the grandkids miss the Secret Garden in CA, so we are making another one, I can hardly wait to finish so that they can come.. they haven't been to this house.

Thank you for the compliments, yes, sometimes the people we contract are surprised that I have the run of the place..lol. DH goes to work and agrees with whatever I decide, it feels good (he doesn't agree to everything in other areas) but he leaves the designing to me.

Here are me and my babies.. Good to meet you all. Believe me, I don't look any better today, ... age 55 next June (I think), I forget sometimes.

edited to add: I don't do alot of the heavy lifting, usually the put the flagstone on benches for me to work on.

Do you have pics of the old secret garden. I would love to see it!!

Rock on with yourself. I know that surpised felling. When I took a crew to some jobs, the customer talked to the men more than me, and I was the one running the show. lol. They finally realize you know what you are doing and everything is good.
