Is anyone doing any needlefelting? I think it is such fun and very relaxing compared to the other needlework I used to do. Here is a picture of one of the birds I have done. The others can be seen on my website http://www.jbsbirdsandmore.com. Click on to Needlefelting. I would love to become a good fiber artist someday.
This of course is the part of my life when I am not in the greenhouse or out in the fields. Mostly rainydays or winter for me.

JBerger, I wonder if I could use fine fabric scraps instead? That I have plenty of!!
Guess I will have to order a kit and find out..

The wool is all I have ever used. I do not know how it works but when you push the needles into the wool it sticks together and you eventually have your little critter. I started with a kit that had the mouse in. That was my first. It was a mouse, a heart and a sunburst I think. The kits come with everything except some do not come with the foam piece and you do need that or you will have holes and blood all over you. Those needles are nasty. I think you would love doing it. Have you ever considered doing rugs with your fabric scraps? My grandma used to make braided rugs out of fabric scraps.

That's a smashing idea. Rugs!! I'm supposed to be quilting something now...but my "want to" has left!
Jeez..needles all over the table. I'm accident prone and bound to endlessly prick myself. Unless I use gloves?

That is so exciting. What are you making? If you need any wool and want some top quality stuff, look at this website...http://www.applerose.com . Elizabeth is my neighbor and has the greatest colors and quality wool. Price is good too. I am anxious to see your finished projects.

Needlefelting is using one (or more, but I use only one) needle to create a piece of flat felt ro little characters, out of wool what has been processed. Many people make little bears. You can do all sorts of thing from kits you can buy. You take a piece of wool and poke holes in it until it looks like you want it to look. I sounds so difficult but it is not and anyone can do it. The needles are very sharp and can hurt like heck if you do not watch what you are doing. I started by getting a beginners kit from the internet. If you look up needlefelting you will find many sites that offer kits, plus groups you can get on to ask questions. Many people "wet" felt, but I have not tried that yet. I enjoy dry felting which is called needlefelting. One I used was http://www.livingfelt.com, i did a bear. Also http://www.BeyondBasicBears.com is another place to visit. Hope this answers your question. You can download alot of good instructions too. JB
