Great covered jar and strawberry pot. I love strawberry pots and never see any that pretty in my galivanting.
Melody, it looks like sand art to me. Love those swirls and patterns. Very pretty!

| Hi Melody,
Because I've seen some of the Mosaic Bowling Ball on the Garden Art forum I'm going to try a wild guess and say the marbled patterns might just be what the original pattern on the bowling ball looks like.
edited to add: I forgot to mention the strawberry and lidded pot, very nice work.
The Front door is quite unique.

Are they part of a picture done by someone that does the painting on the sidewalks?
The top right corner looks like maybe it is cement or black top by the color
I see a shell in the second one it looks like or maybe it is a ratchet they painted over ...hahahahaha
I can see where it might look like sand art with the texture and the glittery effect in it.
Oh and there are still more crepes I figured someone would try and eat them all so I hid some in back lol

Ima, can't remember what glazes on the strawberry pot (rim was an additional dipping in another glaze, I believe). Love the drippy glaze on your planter! Do you make 6" x 6" tiles? I might have to order six from you for my patio coffee table :) |

| I'm loving the tiles and blocks and that weaving is wonderful Zen. So natural. I really like natural things.
Someone asked me this morning, some place else on Dave's where the cafe was. After answering them, I went to the Dave's Garden forum and invited the general population from Dave's to come see our wonderful cafe. Now, that doesn't mean that everyone can freeze up on their postings. (Just pretend they aren't there if you are shy! HaHaHa) I just thought it was a shame to hoard all of this lovely art work to ourselves.
Traci and Terri, you guys need to make a run to the store for ore goodies so that everyone will have something to snack on and drink while they are perusing this lovely art.
Cactusfan, you asked for someone to post some plants for the strawberry pot. You are welcome to any cuttings of my coleus. They've all gone wild and I'm not sure how much longer they will last. So take as many as you want. Just leave me something to try and overwinter in Connie's greenhouse.
Speaking of Connie's greenhouse, if you all haven't seen the greenhouse that Connie built, you really should check out this wonderful thread, showing the idea, to the completion of it. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/671593/ It's more than a greenhouse. It's a cedar conservatory!

Edited:
It's been brought to my attention that I've offended Terri with this posting of my purse. I've apologized to Terri and I hope that this posting hasn't offended anyone else. I will share the dmail I sent to Terri so that you can see that I had nothing to do with this fox's demise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh Terri,
I apologize for offending you and anyone else by the posting of my purse.
I didn't kill that fox. It was already there at the thrift store, much as you see it now. It's got the old timey type of clasp on it, so I'm sure it's been laying in somebody's closet for years. I just took what was in my path and created something from it. Something that would be loved once again.
I cannot remove the photos from the thread, but I can edit the text to let folks know that I wasn't responsible for it's death. Again, I am sorry that you were offended. I would never have posted it had I thought that it would offend anyone. Please forgive me.
Hanging head in shame.
Janet
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recently, Connie and I made something that I am forever getting comments on. It's my fox purse. This purse was created using a fox that we found at a thrift store. It already had the little clamp on it that was supposed to clamp on to it's own tail. The clamp now holds on to the original ring of the leather purse I bought at Goodwill. We took a leather belt that was already in really long strips and cut it so that we'd have enough strips to go across the bottom. Once they were in place, we put bone and glass beads on the leather strips to decorate them. We cut the hands from the fox and put them on the side straps of the purse and added a few more leather thongs there so I could hang my rattle snake rattler and a few other goodies from it. It was fairly easy to come up with and we plan to make more of these. We already have several minks. The original idea came from Connie's covering up her beautiful leather carry bag that had a horrid grease spot on it. Once I'd seen her bag, I had to have one for myself, but since I never travel, I decided on a purse instead.

| It's paint! yep you guessed right...but...it's an image taken with my macro lens, and it's about 1 inch square. This is the type of paint that is used on cars and trucks, the specks are the tiny metallic flakes that are barely visible to the eye.
I got bored one winter afternoon over at the bodyshop and started messing with the tints that we use to make paint for each vehicle.(I'm the paint mixer and matcher) I tilted the piece of cardboard around to make the swirls, and then took pictures of it in extreme close-up. You are seeing imperfections and bubbles here and there, but for the most part, it's just wet paint.
They print off in an 8X10 pretty nice, but are much nicer as screen savers. I've got hundreds of any color you like. |

| Unique,
You just posed an interesting theoretical question. What is Art for? I won't go into the whole what is art issue, but what is it for seems an interesting topic to discuss if anyone cares to comment?
And now if I don't return to my own work and stop watching everyone else's I'll never finish 5 pieces by Dec. 1. Can I get one of those flower and moss chairs terri, for spending too much time at the cafe and not enough on my work? |

| I'm sure that you'll get as many answers to
as there are people here, vewing this post.
I've been collecting unique and unusual things forever, or so it seems. Most have been found at thrift stores over the past 25 years. I consider it all art. My kids consider it "stuff", or as my oldest says "crap". While both of my daughters have artistic talents- the oldest sewing wonderful one of a kind creations for her daughter, which I constantly praise, the youngest a wannabe painter, whose art I have hung in my home, neither of them has learned to appreciate art for what it really is.
To me, art is something that has been created for the sole purpose of being admired. It doesn't really have to have a "purpose". But it sure is neat when it does. (waybigo grin)
I cannot tell you how many times I've heard my oldest daughter say (about something that I thought was really cool and bought for next to nothing) Why did you buy that Mom? What are you going to do with it? Don't you have enough of that? These statements and questions are all accompanied by rolling of the eyes at my feeble explanations.
I've heard all of my life that Beauty is in the eyes of the Beholder. Now, in most circumstances, this is said whenever somebody or something that MOST folks wouldn't consider beautiful is in their path. I believe it applies to just about everything in life. It's all a matter of the emotion that it brings to me. I look for positives in every aspect of my life. I do my dead level best to not dwell on negatives or unpleasantness. Even with all of the negativity these days, there is so much beauty in this world. A person just has to look around them to see it.
What an excellent topic to discuss Semper. I hope others will chime in with their ideas also.
Janet
ps, this is my oldest daughter viewing Penelope & the elusive butterfly for the first time. She didn't ooh and aah and tell me what a good job we'd done. She said, "What is it for Mom?" Talk about a disappointing reaction on the most exciting thing I've ever done in my life. I shouldn't have been surprised because my husband had basically the same reaction. Sad, isn't it???
