I am the absolute worst photographer there is. I get too caught up in what is going on to even remember to take a picture. They are very vivid in my mind. Will give you just a smidge.

This was our opportunity to meet IslandShari and her DH, JB. We spent the biggest part of our time together at Rjuddharrisons beautiful home and garden. Texasgal77 came by later in the afternoon. It was like Christmas with exchanges of gifts and, of course, plants.

This is Shari straight off the escalator and hugging my DH, Mike. Can you tell she is excited? And am I? with the camera moving.

JB, Shari's DH, looks a little dazed. After all his wife and I were embarrassing him by jumping all around and acting like little girls...now that is one thing we will both always be...happy little girls that get to come out and play every now and then.

Ain't it great!

No possible way to capture with a camera the glories of Randy's garden. Everything is over the top. He hedged a lot on the question of what he feeds everything. Has to be more than the Houston zone 9. His neighbors plants were very ordinary size. Not Randy's. Kind of like "Jack and the Beanstalk".
I have major envy. What I grow in a small pot and pet to keep alive grows above his roof. Have you ever, ever seen a 6-7 inch trunk on a castor bean? Some 15' or better tall? In the past would have called it the magic touch. Know better now that it represents a lot of elbow grease to produce a green thumb.

At the airport...so long for now. I'm standing on the curb to I look as tall as Shari...don't you think we could be sisters? Both have deep dimples.

Better than that, in the last few months we have discovered we have a soulmate somewhere on this planet that appreciates every day and every blessing. While it may have seemed a long distance to Houston...consider Shari and JB were just in from Brownsville, Texas, from Kwajlein, Marshall Islands. Jetlag big time.
They were off to Colorado to visit daughter and more friends. I feel so fortunate that we were able to share a few hours in their short time in the states. Now, when I go to Kwaj guess that will have to be it for the entire visit. atoll 1/2 mile wide, 3 1/2 miles long. They are special people.

So are Randy and Jeanne. Randy has lived on other continents and Jeanne was raised by her Marine family in Hawai`i. All so interesting for once it was easy to listen and learn.

Almost forgot. Will have to unplug the camera and take pictures of the hand made beauties that Shari brought to us.

Even brought a large, fantastic book called "IZ, voice of the people". I about died.

Will be ready for the islands in February. Oh My Gosh! I am sooo blessed.

be right back..got to take the pictures.

Ahhh. Thanks Chrisi,
I got to re-live a bit of yesterday with the pictures..
One of my favorite moments was the talking with hands..and you BUSTED her sooooo good..and got it on film! Way to go! I'm still having a good laugh over that.

You know..the only thing I do with the plants..is not pick up leaves until spring, in fact for the front garden since there are no trees..Is pick up the nicely bagged leaves that lovely neighbors seem to leave in front of their house for me! (okay...they leave it for the trash pick up) - but I'll throw those leaves on the front garden. I started with the Alocasia section this week, so you really couldn't see them from the front. I will be finishing this month. It does save on the mulching bill too..
I do fertilize most of my tropicals with Hibiscus fertilzer / analysis 18-8-28 soluable fertilzer that I get at Houston Fertilizer http://www.yardgeek.com
(only available at Houston Fertizler as it is their own product)

LOL, I have no secrets and in fact have all of my conjecture, theories and experiments are chronicled in my blogs. http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/m/rjuddharrison/
Probably the two that would be interesting to you is
Fertilzers, Soils, Plant Nutrients and..
http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/rjuddharrison/1624/
OFF THE SHELF GARDEN TIPS H202/ASPIRIN AND..
http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/rjuddharrison/1923/

I forgot, but this might be something that the plants really love.. I put out alfalfa pellets 3 times a year, they are infused with cotton seed, Sea Weed, Mollases and fish emulsion. I also get that at yardgeek, or Houston Fertilzer.

I haven't started the "elbow grease" section yet...:)

It was great meeting you. You always have a sparkle in your eye, and a mischievious fun about you!

Rj

Gosh, be sure you check out the thread on Dave's about the possibility of a convention. Your enthusiasum and yearning to meet each other inspired me and last night I started a new threhttp://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/790716/ad. Need your feelings about it.

This was not a true RU and don't want anyone to think they were left out. Months ago IslandShari and I connected. Discussed how we could get together while they were in the states. Houston was the only choice. With the shared interest with Randy it just sort of happened that we included him, actually expecting to meet at a restaurant someplace. Only in the last few days did the visit become his home and Jeanne came as she had been to his place just a couple of weeks ago. It was actually kind of spontaneous. Because of the warm feelings I always have with DGer's the idea of a convention was born. Now don't you know a large group would really make the place rock...laughing all the time. Seems that after being in the garden we are all so mellow and don't tend to stress as much. Mike is already saying he wished we had had more time to really visit.

What????? They still don't have that BRIDGE built yet, I'll say, takes forever to get anything done these days!!!!! LOL!

When we came back from Hawaii we picked up our car in Calif. Along the way...Arizona, I think, we were fueling up. A very elderly man looked at the Hawaiian license plates. He nodded his head, hand on chin, and said, "Didja drive the whole way?" My Dad just nodded, and said, "Yep!" LOL!!!!
When Dad got back in the car and told the story we all just howled! Ya didn't know there was a bridge?????? LOL!!!!!

I know, huh? There's a looooong bridge in La, that I have a fond dislike for going to Miss. to see my sister. And another...only a tunnel in Va. I believe on the way from NC to Norfolk. It took forever!

Shari, I am so glad that your parents crossed that bridge just in time. We have a bridge here between Baytown and LaPorte. It is so WINDY up there sometimes. I know that they allow for some sway, but I do pray when we go over it, that I can just get to the other side safely! That is one of the many things I am thankful for...just getting over that bridge!!!!! I don't think I would try "Driving the whole way" from Calif ro Hawaii, either! LOL!

Well, I live in the tropics, but all is not sugar and spice here either! Windy season has started and half of my garden is in shock (again!). My night blooming jasmine now has three leaves left on a 4 ft shrub, all my peppers are kaput except the cayannes which seem to be immune to everything! My bougainvilla's are all just sticks at the moment because we have only had a few hours of sun a day for the past week or so...but!...
my hibiscus are blooming happily, the orchids truly love the wind, and... ready Randy?

My Bleeding Heart Clero's are blooming!!!! Yea!!!!!

How fun! What a difference a day can make in our lives, huh? So glad you all got to do this. Had any of you met in person before this?
Love the flamingo's, my sister and I buy them for each other at Christmas. It had started out as a gag many years ago, she had gotten me a tacky gag gift one year so the next year I got her the big pink plastic flamingos on stakes for her lawn and darned if she did not love them. LOL That totally backfired. Now they are our theme. The one I got her this year sports a straw hat and rhinestone glasses on a chain. :~)

It only got to 20* today. When I left work this morning it was 16*. I had to leave early cause I hurt my back horseback riding yesterday. The horse I was riding has a really choppy stride and it was also my first time riding her. When she was trotting I was being slammed down into the saddle cause I couldn't post on her. So I have a sore back today. lol.

Ran across this while looking for something else. Had such a great time visiting again, thought maybe you would too.

Since November, we have been to Maui to visit Jenny and family (Braveheartsmom) and Randy came here for a weekend. He and I went to the Waxahachie RU and then to Broncbuster's home to extend the day where my DH cooked BBQ. Phyllis (Mibus2) came home with us for a short visit that evening. TJ and Mitch have been here several times. Carol (AlohaHoya) came to Jenny's for the day and we have talked several times by phone. Occasional phone conversation with John (carriblue). Have been to two RU's and met dozens of other super duper wonderful people from DG. All of these good times seems so far back.

Guess that means it is time to get something going again. A couple of other RU's are in the works now. Hoping to go to at least one of them.

My family has greatly expanded this last year and I am sooo blessed for it.

Still hoping for a major Dave's Garden Party someday.

It was a GREAT day! Thoroughly enjoyed meeting both of you and being able to visit with you, family, and Randy. Felt like I had known y'all forever! It was wonderful! Sure wish we could do it again. Was thinking about all of you this afternoon out in my garden. Must be ESP.

Thanks for the wonderful reminder! It was a very good day!

Wow! What choice. I would think Bali would win hands down. We are great but not that great. But then, there are the grandchildren and kids and parents.

We would get the frontroom ready and the smoker fired up. Might have to put Randy on a Methodist Pallet. (never knew exactly what that was. one of my dad's sayings) But then when you are having a party, who sleeps anyway?

I'm ready when you are. Or could we just meet you in Bali? hhhmmmmm

What's that I read? Is my feeble brain deceiving me? Are RU ideas spinning around a focal point in Texas? It would take much to convince me to swing by Texas for a few days, specially with all those nice people who would converge around that nexus.

OOOHH, that would be so wonderful. And I could hand-deliver those rhyzomes I promised to PK and hug her (and everyone else). Keep positive thoughts and let me please know. I've only been to Texas once (Dallas-Fort Worth airport). We were there a total of 45 minutes before boarding our connection to Fort Lauderdale. Plus, airports are international territories so I haven't really been to Texas. My education is lacking.

Take care, all.
Au revoir, tous!

Ha Ha Ha...well, when you guys put it like that, I guess it did sound kinda silly. But, you know how it goes, who will be upset if we don't go see em, and am I willing to live with that, or should we go do the family thing and do Bali some other time. Problem is, "some other time" can be put off too long. Promised ourselves we wouldn't let that happen, but family pulls pretty hard on those heart strings, ya know?

Jeanne, it really is a shame you can't travel. I would be so miserable if I couldn't. Love to go, love to come home. I'm fickle like that. Ha Ha. So, passports ready? We meet in Bali in ...what?...end of august?

Shari, my passport is always ready. I could swing by Texas for a few days but Gail won't let me travel to Bali alone and she certainly face that plane trip, either. All that is left is to wish you the most wonderful time while you are there. See your family, enjoy yourself and I'll be watching for a Texas RU later.

It's not a problem for me...haven't really done much travelling anyway.

Randy, better get on it...They had said on the news that there was a backlog due to the changes in the laws...Now people have to have passports for Canada and Mexico, so there's much more demand on the dept.!!!!

Y'all have fun...and take LOTS of pictures!

Shrewd move on the part of the airlines; bummer for us non-winged creatures. They'll reduce the number of flights, create scarcity and then raise the price of airline tickets. Off with their heads!

It's the whole idea. They realize there won't be as high of a demand, and are cutting the size to anticipated levels. Say goodbye to the days of cheap fares. Honestly, if you knew how much money it took to get one aircraft off the ground you would wonder how any of the airlines are still in business.!
