How do I get them to live in the crawlspace of my house near Ocean City MD.

These are a garden spider that likes to be in sunny areas near plant material and growing things. They'll spin their webs where flying insects and grasshoppers are plentiful. I'm not sure that they would use a crawlspace as a habitat.

Hello all. I've just joined this site. A month ago a lovely spider took up residence in my modest container garden in front of my apartment in the day lily pot. I'd never seen a web constructed as this one, with a vertical zig-zag down the center. Being a lover of all life I did not interfere with its new home and am helping to feed it by throwing over ripe fruit pieces into the container to attract flies for it to eat. It has molted twice in a month and a half and keeps on getting larger and more beautiful. I am glad to have found this site young Dave and will send you a photograph of our new garden resident. Unfortunately I've not noticed any grasshoppers in our garden, according to many, it's favorite prey. Alright plant and insect enthusiasts, I'm signing off. But I will attatch that photo. Sincerely, fronobulax, aka John

Welcome!

We're glad to have you here. Enjoy your Argiope. She'll eat just about any insect, flies are a good choice.
