My husband keeps bragging about smoked food he has eaten, etc. I was thinking of buying the family a smoker for Christmas. any suggestions? We have lots of venison this year (4 deer worth) so we will be trying to smoke different cuts of venison.

Google for smokers, there are so many choices. It would give you more information on the best choice for your needs. As a former "flatlander" I'm surprise he can decent deer. They usually have been eating the sage and the meat really "reeks" of it. My mom use to marinate the meat in red wine, which she discarded to help tame the sage.

Depends on your budget - cheap (Old Smokey), high end (Big Green Egg),

There are many in between and some much more expensive - saw a smoker trailer recently on Craigslist for $6k. It was big enough to have held 200# of meat.

Thanks for info. Wow 200# of meat! Actually, the deer in this area is not that bad. Since we are in corn country, the deer eat corn and don't seem to have that gamey taste. We also found that if we let it hang for 2-3 weeks before processing, it also has a milder flavor.

Ah, I'm formerly from McCook, so we were closer to the CO border and all the sage brush.
