As some of you may know, I've joined the writing team for Dave's. We've started putting out 2 articles a day now. With the weather getting colder, folks will be doing more crafty stuff inside, getting it ready for next spring. It's in our blood! :-) Gardens and art go hand in hand.
I plan to write a series of articles for Dave's showcasing the many fine artists that we have here. I'd like to eventually cover most of the mediums of garden art. I'm looking for someone willing to talk, in depth, about their craft and possibly show some lightweight "demonstrations", including lots of photos, within the articles, leading folks to the wonderful art and craft forums that we have here on Dave's.
There are so many people here on Dave's that create their own garden art. Whether it's hypertufa, ceramics, metal arts, glass works, painting (suitable for outdoor displays), we're all doing what we can to provide our gardens with beautiful things. I know there are more than what I listed, so if you are interested and I didn't mention your craft, please let me know.
If you'd be interested in interviewing for a spot in one of the articles, please send me a Dmail.
So far two of our resident artists have spoken up to be showcased here on Dave's Garden in articles. I'm really looking forward to learning about clay from both Zenpotter and Imapigeon. These ladies have two distinctively different talents, though they both use the same medium.
We'll be demonstrating the art of working with clay in a series of articles, creating a project from start to finish. Both ladies will have their menfolk to do the photographing so they can do what they do best without ruining their cameras. :-)
Having never worked with clay in the past, I'm looking forward to having a good time learning all about it.
These articles showcase not only the crafts, but the resident artists and their work, as well. This is a wonderful opportunity to show off your God given talent, not only to the wonderful members of Dave's, but to the world. There is no "deadline" on doing a project. I will be working on several of the articles simultaneously.
There are so many talented folks that reside here in Dave's Garden. I know you're out there! I've seen the incredibly beautiful garden art that has been posted in the cafe just over the past month. 25 people have already viewed this thread. I'm hoping many others will speak up and be willing to show the rest of us how to do what you do best.
Thanks again for taking the time to read this. I do hope you'll contact me soon so we can put the spotlight on you and your garden art!
I am really looking forward to doing this project the planning is going on right now. It isn't on paper yet, but it is running around in my head. It is going to take me awhile to get going so how about someone out there jumping in and being the first.
Hi zen, I am planning to install the tile on the last section of my front walk this weekend (hoping the weather holds!! bad for plants, good for projects!!). I told Janet I could document that process then and go "backwards" from there to firing, then painting, glazing, cleaning, cutting out and rolling the slab in reverse order---like a flashback. What do you think?
The teacher in me has a question is this to be seen as instructive for all levels? Beginners might find it hard to learn in that order. IN that case you could start with the installation and then go to the beginning.
The backwards idea is much more artistic though.
I don't think I will be able to use the installation part of my project unless it can wait until spring. We are past the date to show that part. I can just see me getting DH to dig a hole and cement a pole into the ground this weekend. Saturday the high is going to be 24º and we should be getting a few inches of snow. Right now it is 9º. It can be a continuation to the project.
The really cool thing about this is that we can link each of the articles for each artist to each other. That means that each step of the creation process can be an article within itself. And when it's all said and done, we'll "weave" the articles together to make a complete story.
Something to think about is that there are many threads within this forum where work has been done already. So I'm thinking that some of the "writing" of the article may already be here.
