Southern Seed Legacy (SSL) strives to reverse the erosion of plant genetic diversity and cultural knowledge in the American South by encouraging and supporting local seed saving seed exchange networks and in situ conservation.

Since 1996 the SSL has been hosting an Old Timey Seed Swap at Agrarian Connections Farm near the small town of Crawford in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. The purpose of these seed swaps is to facilitate networking among gardeners and farmers in the Southeast who grow heirloom plants with the hope that the exchange of knowledge, seeds, and enthusiasm will help toward the preservation of unique southern heirloom plant varieties. In addition to swapping many of our favorite garden varieties, the Old Timey Seed Swap is also a good excuse to come out and enjoy the Georgia springtime weather and to eat barbecue and listen to bluegrass music. Please follow the links below to see pictures from our past seed swaps.
10th Annual Southern SSL Seed Swap
APRIL 28, 2007
Agrarian Connections Farm
3-8PM
The Southern Seed Legacy is celebrating their 10th annual seed swap on April 28. Bring your seeds and stories to swap with other seed savers in the South. If you have no seeds to swap but want to get started, come on to mingle with gardeners and farmers who can help. We will have a campfire, live music, barbeque, and other activities. The Annual Seed Saver Award will be given again this year. Visit Agrarian Connection log cabins, the new heritage orchard project, and see our herd of piney wood cattle. |
