the 1850 unfinished spruce floorboards in front of windows in this bedroom have some black gunk on them. we tried gently pulling a scraper over a small section and it came up.
for the most part the rest of the floorboards need little work before we put a stain on them
or do whatever we decide to do. any suggestion out there are to what this might be and
how to remove it. it's not really sticky. one thought i've had is maybe it's mold though it
doesn't smell. another thought is maybe it's resin. this room is on the second floor which
is unheated. we insulated the whole house when we bought it 14 years ago.
