Hi, I planted last spring a nice 20 gal. clump of Alphonse Karr bamboo on the northeast corner of my house and it is growing great and sending up a lot of shoots. Recently, while surfing the net I ran across some articles saying not to plant some clumpers near foundations or driveways due to the force exerted by their roots. I can understand that it would damage a 4" thick driveway, but a house foundation? If anyone has experience with this cultivar and its growing habits please let me know if I need to move it or not. I do realize its supposed to acheive heights of 25-30 feet and have a base of 15 feet square or more. I see a lot of the Bambusa Multiplex varieties planted around the Covington-New Orleans, LA area as screens and some are planted along driveways that appear to be mature size with no visible damage to the concrete driveways. Should I move the Alphonse Karr clump?
Thanks,
Jeff
