I just built a potter's shed and have a Fischer wood stove I'd like to have in my shed. I'm looking for information on what I need to do to properly install the stove, piping, etc but don't have any local resources to ask. When visiting local hearth/stove stores, I always feel like they are pushing a particular product or just looking to sell me stuff. Are there any good reference books which go into details on what I need to properly install this wood stove in my potter's shed?
I wouldn't assume a stove in a shed needs all that but I don't know. Depends on code and what you are comfortable with I suppose. There a dozens of more installation manuels at the Vermont Castings website.
We just put a Vermont Castings catalytic gas stove in an apartment and it was a whole 'nuther game. Not the do-it-yourself project you have. House was built in the early 19th century and we needed a lift to put a liner down the chimmey. But even with the cost of installation (as much as the stove) it still will pay to have done it (and its made the new tenents very, very happy.).
Please start with your local codes office. In this day and age most have written specs. Most also have a project inspection and a fee to help pay for codes inforcement.
I agree that Vermont Castings do have excellent instructions. Even so take my advise to avoid pit falls that could be costly.
