What does it mean in the colum views? Is it the number of times it has been read?

Not a dumb question, and besides, they are allowed here! you are correct, views is how many times the message has been looked at. If you re-load the screen, it will go up by one. Each view by the same person is counted as one, so if you've read it 10 times, it will count 10 views.
