SOLVED...WITH SUGGESTIONS OF SEVERAL SOLVENTS...HEHE
I bought some cute little crystal water glasses at TJ Maxx around August. I was busy, so stuck them in my china cabinet (labels and all) until a time when I could clean them. Well, I got them out during the holidays and soaked them in sudsy water. The paper part of the price tag EASILY came off, but left a very sticky residue. I got out my trusty Goo Gone and THOUGHT I had it solved, but there are smears of sticky stuff everywhere!! I've tried straight dish detergent, and nothing works!! I don't want to put them in the dishwasher as they are nice crystal and I have hard water. Any suggestions?

Eucalyptus oil is recommended for cleaning sticker residue off of vintage crystal, I'm sure it would work on yours!

Good idea. Where would I buy this? I think I've seen some at candle shops to place on light bulbs, but that might be different. |

Health food stores or you could order it on line. It's about $3 or $4.

Ah...we have the original Whole Foods here in Austin...will try them if no one comes up with a solution that involves something I already have here at home. |

to remove the glue residue use a small amount of lighter fluid on a paper towel. this will remove the glue from anything. |

I think just about any oil will remove the adhesive. I highly recommend UN-DU Adhesive Remover. It says "The Scrapper's Solution" on the label. I think you would find it in a craft store. It will remove a sticker from paper and not leave any stain on the paper. I used it to remove price tags from books I had bought at Marshall's. It worked very well. |

Tried the liter fluid first and it definitely worked!!
Is Scotch Brite a powder or a pad? Or both?
Does anyone here use Mrs. Myer's Clean Day products in the kitchen or home? I LOVE them!! |

It's an entire line of cleaning products that smell HEAVENLY. COmes in Lavender and something else, but I buy all the Lemon Verbena...love it. I buy these:
dish soap in kitchen
scrubbing powder for kitchen
stainless steel cleaner for kit.
shower clean
cleaning cloths...
I usually buy at HEB, and there are often coupons to offset the price...not cheap as Ajax, etc. but they ALMOST make cleaning fun...an aromatherapy experience!! |

a trick i learned while working in a china and crystal shop many years ago...spray a little glass cleaner on the area and gently use your thumbnail to scrape off...do not rub the cleaner in, it will make a bigger mess

ctbig...do you mean when the label is still on? This was something that remained AFTER the label was off. It wasn't anything I could scratch off...and when I rubbed it, the residue would just move around! It was truly a mystery to me!
But, thanks for the tip...I'll use it when I have something there to scrape off...and you do mean "Windex" type cleaners, yes? |

it will work with the label on or off...any type of windex cleaner should work...just saturate the spot and gently use your thumbnail to scrape
the gunk off...no rubbing, just scraping with your nail |
