| I've just completed some smoked childrens dresses and pinafores. Very enjoyable and pretty end results. I wonder if many people still do this craft? Click the image for an enlarged view.

Glad to see someone is still doing things like this. Exceptional. There will be some lucky little girls looking very lovely in these. |

| I'm still a bit 'fumbly' but I'm re-learning! Still working with the 'easy' designs and picture cards!...
Cindy, thanks for the link to Jeannie's thread.
Jeannie, I have that little fish picture card. I'm delighted to see it completed. I've completed the sewing of another pinny and think it will be a very nice motif for it. Hope its not too difficult! Did you do back-smocking on the wrong side? |

| Are these done by hand or is there a smocking machine I'm not aware of? I'm wondering because you mentioned a picture card.
, and sh
When my DD was younger we had a dryer fire (thankfully contained to the laundry room) and most of her clothes were destroyed. A friend at work gave me several smocked dresses for her. On top of the beautiful smocking they were "spinner" dresses - she absolutely loved them.! |

| A 'pleater' is used to do all the pleating so they come out 100% evenly. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls...
The alternative way to achieve the pleats is to 'iron on' manufactured patterns of 'dots' which usually are enslosed in smocking patterns. (Simplicity, Vogue etc).
The 'picture cards' , 'smocking plates, are designs with instructions on 'how to'.

| bedouin, yes I did back smocking on the wrong side. My next project has a design with little bees dressed up like bunnies! Had to put my smocking aside during the holidays so I could get Christmas gifts done, now I am itching to get back.
By the way, your work is just beautiful! |

| I know there is someone here that I am supposed to find some Raggedy Ann smocking patterns for. I dug where I thought they were and still am looking. I've been dusting and hiding junk because we are having our house blessed for the new year. Shhhh, don't tell hubby that I'm stuffing his piles of paper in the kitchen cabinet! LOL
My new years resolution is to DOWNSIZE!!! I am getting rid of music related memorabilia, Raggedy Ann and Andy stuff, I promise to find the patterns!!!!!!!!! DON'T GIVE UP HOPE ON ME!

| I enjoy doing the needlework in the evening.
Ah, I know exactly what you mean! The construction contractors start here on the 1st Feb - I'm supposed to be going through boxes to toss stuff out and here I'm sitting at the computer! Have to complete a doll by the 15th Jan for my new GD. Plus, remove plants which will be trampelled on with giant boot shod feet! And plant the Kumquat tree as well as the Eau de Cologne tree... Its called 'procrastination' on my part...Ok, thats it. Time to work! |

| Gosh Bedouin, it's so beautiful. I don't do it, but it is one of the needle arts I really appreciate. I do hand embroidery, applique, bead work and study Japanese embroidery (nuido). Please post more, but try not to distract me as I don't need a new direction >).
