Last April during the record breaking Easter freeze, temps slid from an extended period of highs in the low 60's to 19 degrees. Well, you know what that means. In June I saw the first signs of bark split on my oldest JM "Everred". It was modest and I thought I might lose one limb. But it leafed out fine and put out new growth. I thought "wow", did I get lucky! Then in October as the leaves were falling one major limb did suddenly seem to go dead. Today I saw 5 areas of bark split, in different places from the base to the top. All have started to heal with a nice callous showing. Should I start the selection process for a new one now or is there still hope? All my other JM's came through just fine. Go figure.
