| Carrie, thanks for a delightful article! I treasured Laura Ingalls Wilder's books when I was growing up, and now I'm sharing them with my niece. I know she can convince her folks that they need to boil up some syrup for sugar on snow this weekend!

No snow here in Florida though... |

| We do syrup in western NY, too - and "jacks wax" was something we always looked forward too.
rub a little butter around the top of your pan and it will help keep the syrup from boiling over - real butter, of course, for real syrup! : ) |

| If you have some genuine children, it can be done, Seandor. Dutch, I've heard of people doing it with shaved ice - doesn't sound quite as deliciously sloppy, though. x, Carrie |

| Hmmm - in Fredericksburg, VA you might be waiting a while. Darn, I should have included some pictures of snow - I have all kinds of pictures of snow! You need more than a few token flakes. Good Luck! x, Carrie |

| Oh, my! I thought this was gonna be about snow ice-cream, but this is even better! Never heard of it before. I do love the real deal--not the "Aunt anybody's artificial...". LOL, loved that line. I'll try it next time we get a decent accumulation here. Thanks, Carrie! |

| Better to get the syrup, etc, ahead of time - then when you do get the snow, you'll be ready! xx, Carrie |

| Heh, I'll send my life partner off to get some. He loves my cooking, so grocery shopping is a snap. ;) Besides, if we both go together, our shopping cart far exceeds the shopping list. LOL |

I have to "import" my maple syrup now, but when I was growing up in MA, maple sugar snow was such a treat. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

| The grocery store carry puny 8 oz bottles, which I can slurp down in no time! I like the big plastic jugs, they ship well- no glass to break, and they store well too. I get a shipment a couple a times a year from friends in NH, bless their hearts.
I use it in a lot of my marinades and salad dressings, so it goes fast. Ice cream is naked without it too! |

| For anybody with a Trader Joe's nearby, they carry real maple syrup at a nice price... I like the rich flavor of the grade "B" (darker) syrup. :-) |

Great story, and I have two small grandkids that need to taste this (well, me too!) |

| Yeah, Critter, I agree, I prefer the (less expensive) grade B myself, but I figure whatever folks can lay their hands on will work. All of you, do give it a try! (Especially if you can track down some snow.) x, C |
