Im new here but wanted to start posting...hi by the way. I do recognize a few of the names on here from another site that I frequent.

This is a chair that I have been working on. It is finished except the staining of the chair to an ebony color..Sorry about having to link to it..I dont have the picture on this computer.

I have seen many chairs mosaic'd by other artists in books I have and such. So that is where I got the idea. I wish I had a whole set!! I only had one of these chairs, got it from my mom-in-law who got it from her mom-in-law!!! If you can get glass to stick to it and it doesnt flex..then pretty much you can mosaic it!!!

WOW!!!!!!!!
THAT CHAIR IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

It is so great... really really beautiful.
I would love to do something like that. Would you mind answering some questions...?

Can you/do you actually sit on it?

How are the edges holding out?? Is it crumbling off at all around the sides?

Did you sand the surface of the places of you were to mosaic?

Was the seat "inset" or did you just place the tile right on top of the wood? (does that make sense?)

What type of glue and grout did you use?

Did you color mirror peices???

SORRY for so many questions I just think is so great!!!

Jean- Lol...lots of questions but I love that you love it and love that you asked questions!!!

ok-
Yes you can sit on it and I have...its an old chair, I didnt make it to be used but it is usable.

Edges at this point are fine..but it has only been about a week since I've finished this piece. I usually dont have to many issues with edges though on some of the other furniture (bench, step stool) that I have done.

I did not prep the chair at all this time. Sometimes I do but this one was so scratched up I didnt feel it need it.

The seat was not inset it actually has a bit of a wave in it kinda like a flattened W. I just glued onto the existing wood seat.

I used elmers glue all glue for the mirror tile and glass tile and GE II silicone for the beads. The grout is just charcoal grout from one of the major stores, I think its called polyblend (sanded grout) I added a black grout additive to make it darker as I like really black grout!!!

It is made out of amber mirror pieces (some I ground into circles) orange waterglass mirror, light gold mirror, yellow and red vitreous, bb's, glass globs, and beads (the leafs)

Thanks you all for the great comments!!!

Oh, Chickee, I'm so glad to see you here as well! Welcome, welcome!

I'm so glad you brought your chair. I've been drooling over it for a
few days. Sigh. What a wonderful chair. That seat makes one want
to get into trouble just to have to sit in the corner. Can you imagine
how much fun that would be as a time out chair? LOL

BEAUTIFUL!
