I have a hole to fill in a brick wall .. they no longer make the bricks that were used in my house. I'm thinking it wouldn't be too hard to "fake" it. The face is rough and looks like it was splashed with white paint.. I'm thinking I could use a thin brick mortar on the face of the new bricks to simulate what the old ones look like .. I'd need to be able to dye the mortar. Can it be done? and how is it done?
You can use the same powdered pigments that are sold for concrete, but they can be hard to find small quantities. Scofield and Solomon are two brands sold around here.
Maybe paint instead?
I was thinking it might be a lot easier just to smear some paint on the new brick to get the look of the older brick... especially if it's a small area. The white area in the picture looks like someone bumped it with an almost dry paint roller, it shouldn't be too hard to duplicate.
My suggestion is to take your picture and see if you can send it to any brick/mason distributers in your area. It can be done with paint as was said but that is a fix that will need attention and repairing every so many years!! i say find the same brick or somehting close - go to restoation/reclaimed brick outlets/ ask around the Stone
and Mason distributors and the social halls. These guys have big union halls. Look in your yellow pages. Ask for help you will find it!!
