this is the houndstooth afghan I made for my niece in September.

She's off to university, and this is her 'hugs from home'.

It's the same colours as her cat!

For xmas I made up a matching throw pillow...no pic, though

Lovely work, drivenbonkers : )

What a great idea to do it in "cat" colors... She certainly is a lucky niece to have such a devoted aunt.

Very nice. Cat colors. LOL, is that so it doesn't show the cat hair?

When I was looking for flooring in the new house. I picked the same color as the sand out in the yard mixed with choc lab dog hair.

it was funny,

but I didn't notice that the colours I picked out were the same as her favourite cat, Buttons, cream and butterscotch.

Pure coincidence. She had just started university and was home for the weekend. She was feeling homesick.

When I gave her the afghan, she was delighted 'because it was the same colour as Buttons!', and 'how did I know, the colour was PERFECT!', lol pure luck!

lol, she bought a winter coat in the same pattern/colours.

Sounds like the perfect gift.
It is nice when so much work goes into something and it is so appreciated.
Sounds like you really did well.

Nice job. Is that knitted? Hard to tell from the picture. And how lucky about the colour.

it measures approx 48" x 66" (pattern was about 42 x 54?)

I made it much larger than the original pattern, 'cause I like afghans to be big!

each of the 'tooth' patterns measure an inch, with 4 stitches/rows per inch

It looks as though it was knitted all in one piece. That must have been a challenge to work with.

the body was done in one piece, (large circular needle to accomodate 200 or so stitches per row) with the edges knitted on after. The tassels were the last to go on.

The longer it got in length, the warmer it got on my lap, lol

I would do that pattern again.

freepatterns.com is where I found it. there's a whole bunch of stuff there, knitting, crochet and crafts

from the pattern itself: designed by Lois S. Young, Knitting Digest, January 2003 Vol 25, No. 1 pages 22 - 23

I have a hard copy of the pattern, and would mail a copy if anyone wishes
