I'm in Austin, Texas, Zone 8b
Our highs can be in the 100's for weeks at a time in August, but lows in January can dive to the single digits occasionally.
This area is in the front of my house on the side near the driveway. The stone walls range from just 5 feet tall to about 7 feet tall. The area is mostly understory, with old, sparse red oaks as the large trees, which are about 30 feet tall, but I'm not a good judge of that.
I definitely want JM's in the area to allow the stone to show through. Should I plant the JM's as low growers, or a few tall ones with lower JM's in front? Other bushes in front? This area is on a sprinkler system. I don't want any grass, so thought I'd use some gravel (want a Japanese, "zen" feeling in the outdoor "room"). I plan to have a honed granite bench in front (I already have it) and stepping stones through the area. BUT...other suggestions would be welcome.
I do have 6 JM's that I bought 2 years ago that are in pots. One reaches 8 feet tall and the other to 12, and I don't remember the names of them for sure...perhaps one of them is "Garnet"?
I'll post other views of the area...
Help?
Thanks!
Connie
