If you're a seller, please post to this thread if you would be interested in selling through a DG auction system. I want to gauge what kind of activity we would have if we launched such a feature this month.

Please post and say something like "I would sell".

I am thinking seriously about it. I would have speciality annuals ( strobilanthus . lantanas etc) and lots of tropicals-a lot of different types of alocasias/colocasias, bananas, heliconias, tropical plants like jasmines etc

I'm not a real seller, just a hobbiest; but I would sure use DG over Ebay for the 1 or 2 that I occasionally sell.
Maybe just as important, I would buy here more. I don't bother going to ebay usually unless I need something, but a DG auction site I think I would troll through like I do the trade forums.

With all these buy it now buyers, it sounds like we'll have to camp out on the site waiting for a auction to be listed to grab it! LOL. So we need a notification feature to send an email when an item(s) we look for has been listed - as we can do on eBay. (My favorite feature on eBay.) Harold

I would be honored to participate. I am dedicated to the classifieds on daves already, plant scout vendor and our website receives more hits from daves than ever. We love DG. Small Business/Family Owned. We should try to make it for DG subscribers only (may be a great idea to make it mandatory) so we know our members more. They have equal responsibility and dedication. I only use Daves as it is personable and all avid gardeners who know their STUFF! Plants, bulbs, roots, corms, cuttings, gardening books, gardening supplies ect... Great idea. Just dont want DG together. Separate site. We are definitely in year round. DEDICATED to DG

Count me in! I would love to sell here in addition to my ebay business (rarebulbs on ebay). I grow, buy, and re-sell both wholesale and retail Flower Bulbs.

One important thing for large sellers is some way to keep track of orders. I need some kind of invoice system etc. It would be hard to everything by email. If there were no way to track things efficiently I would be forced to offer only large, wholesale orders.

This is so timely, I am starting a small business selling annuals and perennial bedding plants. What an opportunity. Count me in, of course taking into consideration the fees needed to secure a spot for selling, and all of the tax issues, and the state inspections, and the shipping, and inventory. Can you tell I am fairly new?

I would buy and sell. Not knowing what the fee structure is yet, I would imagine that it would be more reasonable than Ebay's.

I am not a small business, but I would still have plants and garden-related items to sell.

Ebay's greediness can be Dave's opportunity. Way to go, Dave!

Not sure if this is the proper thread to post this on, but have you guys read about various states passing laws that if you sell on auction sites, your state may require you to have an auctioneer's license?
http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m04/i23/s02
you can find more articles by googling auctioneers license and ebay
There's been quite a bit about it in the news here.

I don't think it applies to someone selling their own items weather or not they purchased them for resale. I looks like they are going after the consignment shops that are selling other peoples items for them. What I am concerned with are sales taxes, if each state demanded that every seller collected sales taxes for items sold to people living within their borders, it would be a nightmare for the seller, so what I could see happening is everyone that is selling weather it is out of state or not would be required to collect and forward sales taxes for every item they sell. Every state is losing money everytime you purchase something on line and do not have to pat sales tax. I don't know about you, but I find myself buying more and more on line, often I can get a better price even with shipping costs involved, and I don't have to burn a gallon of gas ($3.30 9/10 today) or pay the 7.5% sales tax. For instance I have been buying whole bean fresh roasted coffee on ebay, and it is at least $2.00 a pound less than I would pay locally even with the shipping, the selection is better, and there is no sales tax. It is fresher too!

Here's another article from here in PA
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/home_top_left_story/20080130_...
It doesn't seem to be consignment only but rather things you put up for bid, rather than a fixed price.
And yes, you would have to collect tax from a buyer within your state.
I think Ohio is another state looking at this auctioneer license.

Well, I do 90% of my sales out of my ebay store and Amazon.com book listings, I only list auctions on ebay to bring customers into the ebay store anyway. I really don't see where one should need an auctioneers liscense for an online auction, it isn't the same as actually going to an auction where I would be standing on a platform babbling and looking for the next bid, it's just another way to cut in and make some more money. I'm glad to hear ebay, is putting some effort forward to try and stop it.

Doesn't sound right. (or am I too logical?)

If you were to have a regular auction, you would hire a licensed auctioneer. You wouldn't need a license as a seller.
If you use that logic, then ebay would be the auctioneer and need the license, not the person selling the product.

It is all about the tax. Your state wants it and the IRS wants it.

Hi, I for one am highly interested. I also sell on ebay, and if you could make the prices right, I would close my ebay doors and sell only with you. I have a lot of things so I personally would be moving a lot of plants on this auction. I am not complaining about ebay, it has its ups and downs, but here everyone loves plants, that's what we are all here for and it would only make sense that those of us who sell would make much better money through Daves. Please...HURRY!!!!!!
I am really excited and crossing my fingers for this to happen!!!!!

I would love to start selling on DG…I signed up just to buy and sell…I have a nursery.. Frog Hollow Nursery in Alabama.. I have a box truck and deliver plants all over Alabama. BUT with the price of fuel…..selling my plants on DG from home and having the postmen come to my house to pick up plants.. Works for me..lol
I stopped selling on Ebay because of the HIGH prices to sell…please do better then pain-pal..lol

And I have a friend in Alabama that would probably love to sell Bamboo varieties here, as well as other plants.

Thanks!

I think Bellieg was asking about the "Dave's Auction Site" not the marketplace. Just my 2 cents.

I have been wondering also. I know it has entailed alot more than Dave thought. Like I said, just wondering here.

The Marketplace is what has culminated (thus far, anyway) out of all of the auction discussion. It may or may not eventually include an auction option. Dave is still working on various features, but it is up and running and works great! http://davesgarden.com/products/market/

Is there a way to leave feedback? I need to check it out. My husband and I bought(at least we thought we did) several plants from one seller. After the auction ended she told us it would be a few days, she was having problems and not to pay till she contacted us, that was a month ago and she has never responded again. We where very dissapointed.
