The response to the auction idea has surprised me, and I'm definitely going to be creating this feature.

My desire is to have it ready for beta testing later this week or early next week.

It will be 100% free during the first testing period, which will last for a couple weeks after launch. After that we'll nail down the fee structure and introduce the fees at that time. They will be reasonable, and all of ya'll will help me determine what the fees will be.

Photos will be free and DG hosted, just like the other features of DG. If we start having resources problems with the photos (bandwidth and server space) then we may start charging a small fee for more than 1 photo.

I have a lot of programming to do. :)

It is so nice to know we will soon have another outlet that is well known and loved. I have Brugs that are almost trees that need to go to a new home!

He takes all that fancy weather reporting because he is a farmer and that is what farmers do.
We have had about 5 days of up to 55 mph...After stapling the poly on my front porch this week about 3 times a day, I said 'No more'...they will have to freeze it does freeze. I don't think it will get below 40 tonight like last night.

Maybe we should all offer to go fix Dave's fence for him??? (LOL)

I don't think that having an option to auction (vs the current fixed price marketplace) is a sure thing--this is a really old thread and the reason it says "auction" is because that's the original idea that was proposed, and this was the thread that Dave started once he'd seen that there was enough interest in the idea of having a place on DG to buy/sell plants and he was going to develop something. But as he got into developing it, it was going to be hard to make an auction so he decided to start with the fixed price marketplace instead. If you read through some of the other older threads maybe you can find exactly what he said, but the last thing I remember was that given the difficulty involved, making an auction was not necessarily something that was going to happen.

I remember when I was a newbie, and was reading thru old posts, just to see what was going on. Posted to a few of those, as well. I don't see any harm in someone showing enthusiasm for a proposed auction feature . . . if anything, it will show Dave and the Admin group that people are still interested - even if it is years down the road that it could be implemented.

The Marketplace is the feature that was chosen and is

There IS no auction, and it was never intended to be
one. That was just an error in terminology.

There actually was intentions of an auction, not an error of terminology (Dave wouldn't make a mistake like that :-)) but the programming logistics to implement it were going to take much longer and rather than disappoint everyone, Dave brought on the Marketplace to start with. That still needs tweaking but is not currently high on his list of things to work on. Who knows, an auction may still be in the future some day. I just posted in bold face so everyone that comes along now can see this is no longer imminent at this time.
