My long term goal is to have the auction live on a separate domain, just like we do with Gardens.com.

In the meantime, however, development time will take only 10% as long if I incorporate it into the DG domain at the time being. Then when it's gotten fairly developed I can start pulling it off into its own domain.

So, that's my plan and I wanted you all to have a heads-up on that. It'll live under "Products and Sources" until we move it off on its own later.

Dave - just a question, and I'm sorry if it's covered under the other posts . . . have you decided on a name for the auction site yet? Or are you going to choose a few, and put it up for a vote?

I've been trying to catch up and haven't found an answer anywhere to one question... sorry if this is the wrong place to ask it, but... Will Dave's Garden Auction be for Plants and Seeds only, for other Garden-related items also, or will it include more general items that might be of interest to the folks who hang out in "other" forums?

I guess I could wait for the roll-out to have the answer to that question -- but I'm curious! (and excited!)

I expect it will be mostly seeds and plants, but I'm not going to limit it to just those items. It'll be like the classifieds section at DG where it's anything gardening related.

I see no reason why those couldn't be sold.

Sounds like an awesome idea to me!
My only fear is how it might bog DG down? I am already finding it is getting pretty slow, so how will this effect this site until then?
I am by no means being negative, so please, no one take it that way!

Once Dave gets it up and running, he's going to make it a separate site. Hopefully the traffic won't be bad enough to bog down the whole system before then.

Dave,
Is there the feasibility of a separate tab for "Auction". If people don't explore the whole site when they first get on as a new member (like me when I first joined), they do not always know what is tucked into all the separate categories.

Now, I just get on and go right to my usual forums, and then, I usually don't have time in a day to get through all my interests. If I saw an "Auction" tab in the heading, it would call it to my attention easier.

Just me again,

RatherB - that is a good idea. I found it took me ages to get to know 'all of Dave's' when I first joined.

Yes, dutchlady, I am still re exploring areas that I do not frequent as much. It should really stand out, too.

i have been a member for some time (with a another ID) and still haven't explored everything this site has to offer. there is just so much great stuff and so little time! an auction tab would be great and maybe something to draw attention to it being a new feature .

Yes, maybe a yellow tab so it stands out. Especially nice since most people may never even see the current anouncement that this auction is in the works.
