A few years ago I fell in love with this stuff: http://www.horticulturesource.com/product_info.php/products_...
(The link is just to show the product. I did not buy it from this vendor). I really liked the strong grip and ease of use, so I bought several rolls and used it to tie up everything. Now, some 3 years later, I find that everything is tumbling down because the tape is disintegrating. I guess maybe that's a good thing from the standpoint of the environment; it's not like this tape will be lying around in landfills or gardens for millions of years. And maybe my expectations are too high. Maybe no plant tie will last more than a few years. Still, when my large and very lovely clematis, in full bloom no less, fell away from the fence and tumbled head long into a rose bush, I wasn't happy. In the end, I had to cut most of the clematis back almost to the ground just to get control of the mess. That's when I picked up one of the broken Velcro ties and found that it just fell apart in my hands, like dust.
Just wanted to warn others. For short term use like tying up annuals or tomatoes and other garden vegetables, it's great, but you probably don't want to use it for anything with more than a 1 to 2 year lifespan.
