I was looking for a yarn source on the internet and found this simple knitting machine pattern for socks.

Now I have made quite a few things, but never socks, so I thought I would try. I usually make my own patterns. This one had no stitch and row gauge, no type of yarn used, and only the tension to go by, so my first sock would have fit a size 25 aaaaa foot. LOL

So I did a little modification and came out with these.
DH said they were really ugly. But after finding out they were "women's" socks, he thought they were ok. (relieved that he wouldn't have to wear them)

The reason I have never made socks is that they are pretty labor intensive for a machine, and most could be hand knit as easy. These were not too bad. About 25 minutes to make a pair, then about an hour of kitchner and seaming.
I made 10 pair of ugly socks in the past two days. (something to do when it is zero outside)

Heres a picture of the whole group that I made.
The tenth pair in on my tootsies.

Thought they would make nice small birthday gift for friends this spring.

I kind of went sock crazy huh?

I can't even imagine how they are made on a knitting machine unless it's a sock knitting machine. Look very nice.

Thanks, I feel better about giving them away now.
I just have a regular flat knitting machine. A knitting machine is a pretty cool device. There is quite a bit of person work involved, but it is fun.
They used to be "hot" in the '80's and I was fortunate to learn from a master knitter.

Knitting machines are 5 percent machine and 95 percent knowing how to use them. lol

I emailed the picture to DD and she liked them. So, I think they will be ok to give away.
I was really surprised at how well they fit. They are fairly thin and sassy looking on.

Ooh I really like them. I had no idea you could make socks on a machine. I have always wanted to knit socks but since I can't work with the double pointed needles I'm a lost cause. I'm sure whoever you give them to will love them.

Cute socks!
It would be nice if the knitting machine manufacturer's would bring back the circular sock and stocking knitting machines for home use. I love to make hand knit socks, but it takes me too long to make them to have enough for everyday wear. With my long, skinny foot, I need to buy men's socks to get the length, which limits my colour selection.

It is nice we can make ourselves "custom" socks.
Made some black ones with little flecks of color for the hubby. He wore them proudly and liked them alot.

I think they are quite attractive. Sounds like something to keep you warm and busy on these harsh winter days.

Thanks, I have a pair on now, but had to add slippers. Looks like spring is still too far away.

Some fancy stitch embroidery on the ankles would make them look like those high dollar ones you see in the stores :)

The embroidery idea is a good one.
DD suggested tassles on the ankles.
Guess I need to see what they have in the stores.
