This will be year 3 for my pink peony. Sorry, the ID tag is somewhere in the junk drawer. It's in a 16" pot in the garage, and it is just beginning to show some growing tips through the soil, so I lightly placed some brown paper over it to keep the light away. It was still slightly moist, not wet, from watering a month ago. I realized that I had put many a day's worth of used tea grounds on the surface as a mulch last year, and this had some slight white fuzzy mold--not much. I could remove the tea grounds as they have formed an airy, open "pie crust" on top of the soil. I could add some new potting soil to bring up the level slightly from the bag used when I first potted them. This will be the last year they remain in the pot, but I don't have a bed prepared for this spring, so it will probably be Fall 2008 when they are put in a bed. I had 3 beautiful blooms in 2007 and was supremely satisfied. This is my first peony, so my expectations were not high. What is good to feed it, and am I making a mistake putting tea grounds on it?
