When items have a fixed price, and assuming we have the Google Check Out payment option, perhaps the items could be listed on Google Base? I've listed things there before, you could generate XML files and bulk upload all DG Auctions at once.

Also things listed on Google Base will show up in Google Shopping / Google Product Search, which I personally use a lot. I'm sure a lot of people use Google Shopping / Google Product Search. It would be like free advertising -- it can bring people in who don't know anything about DG or the potentially separate auction site. You can reach it directly at google.com by clicking on the "Shopping" link at the top.

This may be a very stupid question, but if something has a fixed price, how can it be an auction?

You're right, it's technically not an auction if the price is fixed, but Ebay and probably other auction sites as well allow you to sell items with a fixed price if you'd rather do it that way.

It may as well just be a classified ad type sale then. That sort of defeats the entire purpose of an auction.

A lot of people use places like Ebay sort of like a store rather than an auction...they're called auction sites but really it's just a venue to sell things. And it'll be easier to purchase things via a fixed price "auction" from the auction site vs a classified...for the classified you have to read it and then go do something else (phone call, send an email, go to a website, etc) in order to buy an item, but with the auction site you can click a button and buy the item right there. So I view it as a more efficient way to sell something vs the classifieds.

So yes, you're correct, it's not really an auction if you have a fixed price, but it's something that other auction sites allow as an option, and there are many buyers and sellers who like to be able to do things that way. If you don't like the fixed price stuff, then you can ignore them and only buy/sell in true auction style, but given that the other sites have that option and many people like to do the fixed price items, from a business standpoint it makes sense for Dave to allow it as an option.

As a subscriber who would love participating in this I don't like auctions. I would just have a price for buy it now for every plant. Ebay does the same thing if you are familiar with their 'Buy it Now' price.
