I have a Coral Bark Japanese Maple I recently purchased. It is about 5 ft tall and in a 1 gallon container. I am wondering if I could plant it in a wine barrel, instead of the ground. We have heavy clay soil here. I also just found out that there is a dry well full of cement pieces in the are where I wanted to plant the tree.

If I do plant it in the container, will I have to transplant it again at a later date? The tag on the tree says its average size is 10' x 10'.

Any help would be much appreciated... I am new to all this gardening stuff and sick of seeing dirt and weeds out my windows!
