I have a gorgeous salmon floribunda mini that has survived 9 years in southern Alberta. I water in well in the fall and cover with dry leaves after the frost has gone into the ground. Even with the Bow River flooding 3 times in June of 05, it carries on. Some will make it and some won't, but if it comes back - bonus. I find they are usually pretty pot bound when they come home from the store and pot on one size until it's warm enough to get them outside.
