I loved your article! I currently have 9 cats (have been up to 16) I too seem to be the neighborhood drop off point...they are a highlight to my days in the garden...here is mittens, who along with his brother, were abandoned by their mom in our back shed...I wouldn't part with them for anything...

I think he's praying for some catnip in this pic LOL

I have 4 cats,2 pairs of 2. Pyewacket and Precious came back with me from Alaska when I lived there, they are 12 now, last year,a friend passed away, and I have her two babies now,Baxter and Sissy. They all live inside, with 3 big dogs...I always tell the crew that this is a peaceable kingdom, and everyone has to get along.I don't know why but it works.
When I rescued Mollie(140lbs) from my clinic I work at,she walked in past Pye and Precious, they just looked up at her, like, JEEZ,she's bringing home horses now!
They raised Buddy(80lbs) and Sallie(45lbs) from little puppies.Mollie seemed concerned when I brought Sissy and Baxter home, and closed them in a bedroom, till they got their bearings, and adjusted to the full house, she would stand at the door, and look at me like she was wondering what they were in trouble for,to be closed off from the rest of the zoo.She was the first to make friends with them,Baxter and her would touch noses when I'd go in to take care of them, she had to see what was what in there.LOL
I have both front and back closed in porches,it was one of the reasons I bought the house, I knew the cats would love it,almost being outside.
When Mollie came to live with us, I had to buy a kingsize bed...All sleep with me now, except Sissy, she is still a little nervous, but she has gotten up there when I,m in bed.
The things we do for our furbabies!

I love this story. I got my cat because I was terrified of them, not liking their stealthy ways. I figured if I got a baby I would get over my fear, and it worked. Kozmo is adorable and follows me closely in the garden. He doesn't bother any plants, except a MIL tongue, which he destroyed. I stick frag. roses under his nose and I'd swear he likes them. He also likes music. I have tried planting catnip for him and he is not interested, in fact he doesn't care for any treats at all, unless they slither or fly...

again, lovely article.

I love it when folks listen to what animals can teach,
instead of trying to make them into little toy people!

I like how you made room for cats in your gardening life Glynis. I am trying to do the same with my dog, rather than just shutting her out. Its the way to go & its great to have some inspiration.

What a cute story!! I too am a Cat person, but love all animals. We have a grey Polydactyl named Phil who appeared on our doorstep about 6 years ago the day before Halloween. He is such a sweet boy! We also have two Brothers who were rescued from under a car along with their three sisters, during the Thanksgiving flood a few years ago, thus one is named Axel the other Runty. We found homes for three & kept two. Three of the kittens had no tails or just a little nub. We also live in a peaceable kingdom, one of the requirements of living here is to get along with everyone, which includes, a Black Lab named Jake, a Beagle Sadie, a Chiwauzer named Luci, & a flop eared house Bunny named Charlie. They all Love each other, most of the time, Try fitting 3 Dogs 1 Cat & 2 people in a queen size bed. We sleep sorta like sardines.LOL I also have a small Pond with 15 Goldfish.

Tx,
Your house sounds like mine, except I am the only human in the bed,.. do you have to beat them to the bed some nights? It's a race, and if I don't win,on cold nights, I'm moving them over to get a spot.LOL

Yep!! If I get to bed late I'm "squeezing in" to find a spot. It's kinda nice on those really cold nights. They make good bed warmers.LOL But just the opposite when it starts getting hot. Sometimes they bail out for a cooler spot. ;D

If it gets too hot,I bail for the sofa sometimes,it's a cooler room...and they follow, but have to sleep on the floor.LOL
