EDITED TO SAY I NO LONGER NEED SUGGESTIONS. I BOUGHT JENSEN'S JIRRAH WOOD TABLE, BENCHES, AND 4 CHAIRS. THAT'S ALL I COULD AFFORD FOR NOW. SCROLL DOWN FOR PICS AND A STORY OF THIS COMPANY FROM AUSTRALIA.

I'm in the market for lots of deck furniture for a huge uncovered deck.
table with extension capability (to seat 12)
12 chairs
4 "deep seating" chairs that rock
2 (?) foot stools
1 chaise (single or double)
1 coffee table with possible firepit inside
several "drink" tables to place by the chairs

We're considering teak for all...or perhaps teak and powder-coated aluminum or stainless steel?
I like the fake wicker but DH hates it.
I know the teak will weather to a solf silver...I like that. Will oil, sand, etc. to care for it.

We only do modern style or VERY clean lined traditional.

Any brands that have been good for you? Or any other ideas? Any stuff that doesn't last?

Wow..this is a seldom-used/visited forum! I'm just "bumping" up this thread. Maybe my post should just say, WHERE did you buy your deck furniture, and have you been happy with it? A friend suggested "overstock.com" but it's very hit-or-miss as far as having deck stuff.

I think there's more action here during seasons where more than a few people are actually able to get outside and enjoy their patios! There was some discussion either on this forum or on Garden Design last year about good quality patio furniture, maybe you can find that thread and get some ideas. The other problem could be that a lot of us here buy the bargain stuff and it sounded like you were looking for something a bit higher quality. My patio furniture all came either from Target or Orchard Supply Hardware (a local chain that is owned by Sears). So far I'm happy with it, but most of it's not more than a year old.

Hi there, Ecrane! I LOVE bargains; it's just that I want something that will last until I die (morbid, huh?) so want great quality for a great price. Well, thanks for trying! I'm going to Overstock.com again...a restaurant here used them and got great stuff for their patio!

Connie, I was just trying to think of catalogs I get regularly (and daydream about getting some of their furniture). Have you looked at the websites/catalogs for Frontgate, Ballard Designs or Pottery Barn? Might not have the uniquess or quality you want but a starting place for ideas or designs.

Do you have a 'Summer Classics' store in the Austin area? They may be mostly in the southeast, not sure. I've been very pleased with the quality of their outdoor furniture. Many styles and the fabric is nice and soft as well as durable. My dog got mud on the cushions last year and they cleaned up quickly and easily. Love your patio. Is this part of the new work you were doing? I haven't seen photos lately.

Outside (I LOVE your screen name! Wish I had thought of that!),

The slate part is my deck yes. Here are some other pics of the area I just took this past weekend while daughter and friend were here, so they may be in some pics.

This is the view up to the deck where the "living room" stuff will be. DH needs an area to smoke his cigars and drink his Scotch in a "deep-seating" chair, VERY deep for his "deep" body! :-) Because of sports-injury induced arthritis, he is increasingly unable to get around as before, so this area will be for him primarily. Probably 4 deep-seating chairs and a table in the middle. We don't much like sofas because it's hard to sit and talk to someone there unless you stretch your neck!

(I just noticed that you can see my cat Brutus through the window in the above pic! Oh, I do love that guy!)

This pic is the other side of the front of the house, where I want a dining table and chairs that can ALSO do double duty inside the house during large family dinners.

I've been cleaning up a lot (I weeded/cleaned up 8 black trash bags full last week on 2 days!...sorry some of they are in the picture above...UGLY!!! :-)

This last picture is of the "cocktail" pool (only 2 feet deep at the most...some area 6 inches for tanning or grandbabies playing!)

NONE of this is viewable from the street, which is about 3-4 stories below the deck level.

Hey Connie,
You may have gotten something by now, but I was looking through some garden magazine recently and fell in love with these chairs and thought you might be interested. Go to [HYPERLINK@www.smithandhawken.com] They are called the Avignon Lounge Chair...beautiful and comfortable! Just thought I'd mention it to you.

Ashley,

Yes, I do love that! However, DH and I JUST bought a table that seats 8 comfortably-- perhaps 12 with a crowded condition-- with 2 benches with backs and 2 benches without backs, AND 4 "deep seating" chairs (DH was recovering from a heart procedure; I hope he wasn't still on morphine! haha).

It's made from Jarrah wood that is just grown in the Southwest area of Australia and was made there too...something DH likes. (Company is called Jensen Jarrah.) It's due to be delivered and set up on Wed, so I'll post pics then! Thanks for all the help!! :-)

Okay, guys. I was shopping around Austin this past weekend and discovered a company from Australia that makes their furniture from their indigenous "Jarrah" tree wood. It's similar to teak but harder...more like mahogany. It's only grown in Australia, and only in the Southwest area! There is a jetty there that was built 100 years ago, and it's still mostly made of the original wood! Anyway, we bought 4 "deep seating" chairs for the outdoor "living room" and a square table and 4 benches that seat 8 with lots of space or 12 with kids as part of the mix. In addition to the wood being from Australia, the furniture is made there too, and DH liked that idea.

Here are pics...

Oops...I didn't notice that DH left the pool chemicals in the corner! Will have to buy the storage bin next! ha
I also would love the umbrella for the table, etc. etc. Oh well, it's good to "want" and not get all you want at once, huh?

Great looking furniture. The cushions remind me of the ones in our chairs and I LOVE them. Love the table and chairs/benches.

Thanks to both of you! Now I need to find some tables to go with the seating area...I bought 2 modern-style tables at a thrift store about a year ago. They are missing the glass. I'm thinking of having a friend design a mosiac in my "colors" for them. She said 100 per end table. Does that sound reasonable or over-the-top?

It actually sounds reasonable to me, especially since the tables were such a 'find'. What is the size? I like the idea of a colorful mosaic to add a bit of color to the grouping.
I also meant to ask - is that a lazy susan in the middle of the table? If so, what a great feature!

Outside,

The tables are about 2 - 1/2 feet square..well, almost. They have iron legs and a wood frame all around the top...like a picture frame. I have pics of a coffee table my friend did a mosiac for...I'll post when I find it.

Hi, Tir!

THanks! I just got the firepit last weekend and LOVE it as it has a lazy-susan to fit over the lava rocks. I'll take a pic tomorrow and post.

We also ordered one chaise that doesn't have wheels...it's like an outside twin bed...that was to be delivered Wed. but the delivery guys dropped the box and cracked the wood!! So...another 6 weeks to wait for the furn. to be shipped from Florida.
