I'm glad you posted this question as I was going to soon. Just to let you know (if it will make any difference), Consumer Report is about to put out another rating of refrigerators. I believe it will be in the next issue (April). In their last report, GE and one of the Sears Kenmore types were listed as the quietest. Amana and Jenn Air were the other top rated. This was for bottom-freezer, french door models, which is what I'm looking at. I'm not on a rush schedule for buying either as my old one is ok, just updating the kitchen. My current is a Kitchen-aid side-by-side and it's been fine. It is a dilemma.

Whirlpool makes Kitchen Aid, Roper and Kenmore.
Frigidaire and Maytag are bad for having leaks in the refrigerant system.
The more bells and whistles, the more charges for repair. Beware of extended warranties too.
