I was only expecting to enjoy the beautiful color change in the leaves when I purchased a Prince of Orange at the '06 Spring Show for $2.95. It had a main plant and 2 offsets. I kept it outside the summer & fall of '06 but it has been inside every since then.

In December of '07 I saw what I thought was a new offset of the plant. I thought it was strange that the offset was so high up and it looked different than the other leaves. On 01/07/08 I was very suprised to see that the "offset" had bloomed. I had planned to take a picture but to my suprise it started to close the next day and was completely closed by the evening of 01/09. While looking over the plant on 01/10 I noticed a 2nd bud was growing. On 01/31 I noticed a 3rd bud. The 2nd bud bloomed on 02/29 and this time I was ready with the camera. Just like the first one, it started to close the next day. The first photo shows a full shot of the plant which has been repotted twice. I tried to get a good shot of the flower in the 2nd photo. On 03/07 I noticed a 4th bud growing. This is one plant that I have been checking on every day. I don't want to miss any of these flowers since they don't last long.

My rule of thumb is to buy young plants. I love the experience of watching them grow and I like saving money by not buying full grown plants. I think I got more than my money's worth on this one. I had no idea that I would be filling my plant diary with information and flower photos from my "Prince of Orange".
