Hi
I have a hen that is having a hard time breathing. She opens her mouth and breaths. Also makes funny noise like she wants to crow. Like something is stuck in her throat. This has been going on for a month. Seemed to get better and now it is worse. She goes with all the other chickens but not tonight. What should I do?????

Thank you for any help in advance

I don't know--but could it be gapeworm? "red fork-shaped worm that invade the windpipe, causing gasping, coughing and head shaking (in an attempt to dislodge the worm). These parasites are quite serious in young birds, potentially causing death through strangulation."-- Damerow in "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens."

There is effective treatment.
