One tray of 36 border dahlias, basil and then all the dahlia tubers from last year. The seeds have already sprouted and many of the tubers have sprouted. Next week is the big planting week with almost 2,000 plants expected from the work involved.

Well, one of the answers said "containers", so I had to answer "several" (because "many" wasn't an option), but I realize now that it said indoors. I guess i should go back and vote again, as I only have a couple containers of basil indoors. xx, Carrie

I have a tray full of foxglove with some black hollyhock thrown in for good measure that was just seeded. Then there are the seedlings: Brugmansia, Datura, Silk Tree, Alonsoa, Sundrop, Lobelia, Jacob's Ladder, Meadow Rue, St. John's Wort, Canna, Levant Cotton, Russian Hollyhock, Sidalcea, and many others.

Indoors I have flats and containers under every available light (under the kitchen cabinets, an old flourescent desk light, made room in my orchid cart, all of my south windows). I only have one small heat mat, so it's constant juggling there. Then, if you want to add in the winter sowing, I have 6 big Rubbermaid tubs with 24 baggies in each one. I'm not done... haven't started my tomatoes yet or some annuals. and I'm planning on direct sowing some things. The ground is still frozen here and it snowed again last night :-(

Our weather has been bizarre! I just put away the mottley assortment of sheets, moving blankets, etc. that I use to cover special plants when it freezes & brought my pink lemon tree out of the greenhouse & it's supposed to freeze tonight! Late for us here in South Ga! Was just about to plant out my seedlings too - sunflowers, Asclepias, Morning glory, moonflower, tomatoes, round zucchini, zinnias, but I guess I'll wait! Samantha

I'm getting carried away this year. I have three seed flats, and all sorts of square trays, soda bottles, margarine tubs, milk cartons. . . The question will be, "When will I prepare all the beds to plant this much stuff??

My tomato babies are looking lovely, though they don't have their first true leaves yet. Cannot wait for that first ripe, juicy tomato!

Also, LOL to grampapa on flats everywhere. I don't have grow lights, but had a brain flash as I kept bringing the flat down from the fridgetop to look for seedlings by the light of my undercounter fluorescent light. Now I have a tower of boxes under my flat to get those babies up by the light!

Then I have my 25 'germination bins' for my wintersowing outside shown in the photo.

I have 5 different varieties of Hollyhock that are already about 3 in. tall, Ornamental Egg Plant, two varieties of coneflowers, Four O'clocks Broken Colors, Baby Bear Dwarf Sunflowers, RazzleDazzle Gaillardia, Hocus Pocus Ornamental Peppers, Marshmallow Plant, Purple Ruffles Basil, and a large tray of Mixed Coleus. I started them all under grow lights and they are doing really well.

I have already gotten a shipment in of live plants from a mail order and I have had to make room to put them under light also. We are still having frost and it will be a bit before it will be safe to acclimate and move any of these out to the beds.

I am really enjoying mothering them and watching them grow. LOL

Seedling's all over the place here. What do you do when the kids move out, make their bedroom into a greenhouse : ). Helps with the empty nest thing, Still takin care of babies, in a plant sort of way.

We got seedlings in our bedroom too. Heirloom tomatoes and peppers are inside under grow lights. 21 flats all together in the house, along w/ 40 Phlox plants.

Theres 172 wintersow containers outside covered with little seedlings. I hope there still there, it got pretty windy last night, got to let the chickens out and go check'em out.

There will be much to plant. I'm already transplanting tomatoes into bigger pots

Hello!

It is too early to plant seeds here. I usually plant them in the middle of April. They flower from May then. I once tried from June. Everything started flowering in November and December. In January they froze. Some of my Petunias are coming back now. The others are dead.

I planted one "Angel food cake" container (They have clear plastic tops, and black bowls, looked like a greenhouse planter to me!) with Pyrethrum, Ashwaganda, Jasmine, Eucalyptus, Dragon's Blood trees, Virginia BunchFlower, Anise, Bittersweet, Devil's Claw, Goat's Rue and Gymea lily. The only one that came up and stayed up so far is the Dragon's Blood. I just threw in a few of my Parlor Palms seeds, to see if they are viable. It gets spritzed daily, and doused when it looks dry, and I added Miracle Grow liquid fertilizer, and Root Guardian which is supposed to guard against damping off. Maybe it was just too chilly yet **or again** for some of them to grow. I'll be starting other flats pretty soon, with those and other seeds. I only have containers for growing, so only a couple of seeds for each variety could explain the low germination. Might try some Gibberellic Acid next time to be sure of results.

Oh, man, I have a kazillion pots of seedlings going and about 80% of them need to be pricked out and sent to larger quarters, but there is no room under lights, and virtually no sun in the 10 day forecast (I could use tables in front of windows, but what's the point if it's cloudy for the next 10 days?)

I haven't even started the cannas, dahlias, or most of my annual seeds.

If I make a trip to the hardware store for a couple more lights, it would give me room for 3 flats. So out of the kazillion pots of seedlings, I would have a kazillion minus 3. Big Deal! We need heat and sun here, and fast!

I have heirloom tomatos, moonflower, sunflowers and castor bean started. I used to start many plants, but in the last two years I started casting leaves in cement and handpainting them, they are becoming pretty popular at craft and art shows, so I'm real busy trying to paint the last ones I have from last season before things start growing and I start casting again. That's the main reason for everything I'm starting except for the 'maters - the leaves! The way our weather is going, though (5" of snow the day before Easter, and virtually NO nice days so far), I won't be planting outside for quite some time yet!

Tomatoes of all types, peppers, white squash, cucumbers, beans and watermelon (which always grow for me, but the vine dies before they ripen...) I have been here for almost two years. I am a native Texan, but have lived in southeast England from 1995 till my British husband was ready to immigrate. England was one of the best and easiest places I have ever gardened...

I read Critterologist article about W/S and tried it, I have about 30 bottles of outside seeds germanting at various stages and I have several 6packs of seedling, a couple in a shady spot in just cardboard boxes and they are appearing, several in raised containers and barrels, growing and several spots that I planted in the ground directly and the ones the birds haven't got to are now covered so the birds don't get them.

We have had about 2 1/2 weeks of a heat wave and record heat for this time of year so I got a good start. Here the weather has turned cold & windy now so watch it snow or something and kill everything in the ground and in the barrels? Trust me, it is really a possibility in the high desert.

I should say I HAD a greenhouse full of seedlings going. I set up a mister hose and a timer because we were going to be out of town for over a week. While we were gone, we had an underground pipe leak and the city had to shut off our water. Almost everything that was about 3 inches tall when I left was dead on my return. I have to go back out of town for two weeks which means I wouldn't even be able to start over until end of April which is pretty late here. I'd have a great fall garden but not much for this year. I am so incredibly disappointed. I wanted to do everything from seed this year. Oh well, there's always next year and I have dozens of perennials popping up from years past. The butterflies and I will have to make due with them!!

Wish I had room somewhere for seeds. To cold outside right now.

I've found a safe place kept out of reach of the cats and my little gr-d who likes to "thin seedlings". My seedlings are well guarded in my upstairs bedroom between the storm windows and sash window panes. I leave the sash windows up a bit for ventilation, but not enough that the cats can squeeze under or that little hands can reach. Since they receive southern exposure; though the two windows have awnings; right now the plants receive the right amount and intensity of sunlight without artificial light--though I did use some artificial light the first few weeks. Once the weather warms, I'll raise the storm windows to slowly harden them off by exposing the seedlings to the outside air. The window screens will protect the seedlings from birds and insects. My two window "greenhouses" hold about 8 dozen plants. I check them every morning when I get up for work, when I change clothes after work, and again at bedtime. Nothing fancy, but it works and meets the needs of my small city vegie garden.

I have 14 trays of seedlings started. I have 7 under a small grow light and 7 on a windowsill. I have 36 different kinds of tomatoes. They are all doing great along with the peppers and tomatillos. I also started herbs. The native wildflowers are the slowest to germinate but are worth the wait. It's been a few years of not doing growing my own plants and I'm glad to be back doing what I love. Can't wait to plant outside it's been a long snowy winter and there is still snow in my yard!

I’ve set up shop in my living room windows—right inside of where my garden is 
Don’t underestimate the GREAT use of Apple Bee's & Chili's take out containers. They have clear dome lids that made fantastic green houses!

I can’t wait for Mother’s Day! (my annual planting day!)

I've got many seedlings that I'm sharing a picture of:
Tomatoes: Best Boy & Lemon Boy.
Jalapeno Peppers
Herbs: Rosemary, Roman Chamomile, German Chamomile, Chives, Garlic Chives, Morgoram, Thyme, Parsily, Basil, Lemon Basil, Dill, Cilantro, Catnip, Lavendar Lady, True Lavendar,
Flowers: Snapdragons (seeds harvested from last year’s), Sweet Peas, Bells of Irland, Allysim, Blue Frescu Ornamental Grass, Forget me nots, & Marigolds (seeds harvested from last year’s). I’ve just started more marigolds (not shown)—which I love to use in and around my vegetables—the kids love to help grow them—they’re dependable and they give such a punch of bright color.—I was always told they help keep away pests—not so sure of that.

Elsewhere—I’m STILL trying to germinate Gerbera Daisies and another variety of daisy (seeds harvested from last year’s), —I’ve moved them to a sunnier location and am trying again. I’m also waiting on Purple Cone Flowers.

Anyone have tips for germinating these daisies? Please advise!

How smart to put the pots on a layer of stones. Keeps 'em in a moist
environment.

Thanks :) I need to get more stone--I ran out and some are just on the plastic. I was concerned about mildew and I've seemed to attract those pesky little plant gnats--or whatever they are. I've always done this with many of my house plants and some of them water the gravel and not the top dirt. Here I just wanted to keep a humidity area and avoid too much dampness on the bottom of the peat pots. I think it helps.

Here is my "greenhouse." I just recently got into seed trading, and it didn't take long for me to run out of dirt and pots! I NEVER thought that would happen.

I hate thinning seedlings, half the time they fold on me. The thin ones like carnations make me nuts.

I love that Green house garden extravaganza Maddawg.
