I am a total newbie at gardening/landscaping, so forgive me if some questions may have obvious answers :-).
I have a long, narrow (I'd say, 20' x 3.5') flower bed in my front yard. At the end of this bed is another section of garden that already has 7 knockout roses, 1 crepe myrtle, and 5 bushes that I am not sure of. Along the narrower part of the bed, I have 7 dwarf nandinas planted in a row (they have not thrived, not sure why). Anyway, my question is this: What should I plant on the front row of the narrow bed? This area gets full sun from about 1pm-sunset. Last year we had wave petunias, which looked amazing and really thrived, but they did not get quite tall enough for my liking, as we live on a hill and they could not be seen from the street. Ideally, I would like something white, that reaches approximately 12-18" height, and is not extremely time consuming or hard to grow, as the extent of my gardening knowledge is watering and pruning/deadheading. I live in Middle Tennessee (not sure of zone...7?), so we have pretty hot summers (last year was about 102 every day). Thanks for any advice!
Clematis comes in white and would not only look pretty but give you the height you are looking for. Not sure I'll get this part right but I think what beginners need is called "pruning class I," the easiest ones to care for.
