Help, I am rookie trying to put my style on my home. I have a bathroom sink cabinet that has a slick finish. I would like to paint it but the paint won't adhear to the surface. I have thought I might neet to sand it but I am concerned because it is a not solid wood. Any advice would be so helpful. Thanks in advance.
When you say it has a slick surface, do you know what the surface is? Is it painted? If it's painted, chances are it's oil based paint and my guess is you're trying to use water based paint over it and those two don't go together. I would lightly sand, then apply a coat or two of primer, then paint. If it's a glossy varnish or something along those lines, sanding followed by primer also ought to do the trick. If you think it might be a wood veneer rather than solid wood make sure when you sand you do it really gently, all you really want to do is roughen up the surface slightly to help the primer adhere.
