    Dave,
I've seen you using smilies in some of your posts lately and I'm wondering if this is something you will be implementing for the rest of us to use? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4740691

Okay, I'll share my secret. :)

Make the smily just like this:

    ^ _ ^

remove the spaces and you'll produce the famous Dave only (until now) smily.

Now, don't abuse this smily or I'll have to remove it. :-)

Hold the shift key down and don't let go of it until all 3 characters have been typed.

With the shift key down, press the letter 6, then the dash sign (-) and then a 6 again. Then release the shift key. :-)

Yardbird - keep trying, it took me a couple of times to get it.

I hold down the shift key, (keep holding it down for uppercase letters/numbers):

click on the number 6, then the space bar, underline, then the space bar again, 6 again ... then go back and carefully delete the spaces :-)

I put one in a Dmail, and it worked fine... in fact, a friend taught me about them via Dmail -- thanks!

I'm trying to be restrained about using them. I actually appreciate the fact that we don't have a lot of bright dancing little emoticons to use on this site... although I'm a big fan of cute/silly, I think they'd be distracting, and I'd rather focus on what people are saying.

    Thanks, Dave!

I know what we have on here is harmless with our keyboard - I'm, talking about a program called "Emotions" - it has a row of animated faces - you have to click on it to add it to your programs. I get them on many emails, but won't click on it to add to mine. It may be harmless, but I don't know, so why take the chance.

But I'm really glad Dave hasn't opened the door to a bunch of emoticons, animated dancing sig files, etc. I think I'd find them very distracting as I scrolled down through a thread.

In my case I held down the ctr key instead of the shift key. but if you hold down the shift then press the 6 let go, press the - let go press the 6 again you will see what appears like a cats face, but once you post it it turns into a smiley some where in cyberspace!
