We have a white simi private vinyal fence by our patio which has a old post and rail wooden fence with wire mesh connected to it. We want to replace it was new white vinyal post and rail with green, black or gray wire mesh inbetween. Here is a picture of the old fence what color wire would you go with for the mesh black or green? I have seen a few with green but no black yet.
Thank you I hope so as I have be looking at white picket fence also but seem to think it will be too busy with the other white simi privite vinyl fence we already have by our patio. We were thinking of putting the green wire mesh on the outside of the farm post and rail so we don't see it as much but then our neighbor will. They don't sit outside much anyway so we would look at it more then they would. This is our present fence in the front yard that it will connect to.
I think the white picket fence would look nice with your current white privacy fence. Matching the colors will give the yard a more unified look so I think it'll be nice.
Really torn on this as the post and rail is more open look and picket is more money and closed in more but do like the look of that also. Decisions are never easy!!
You could also try mimicing the look of the vinyl fence with the lattice on top by alternating "panels" of white vinyl lattice with solid sections of wooden plank fencing running vertically (tongue and groove or just plain dog eared cedar) with a trim piece on the top and bottom to have the same framed effect. Paint the solid part white (prime it with a stain blocker first) .
Vinyl lattice will "bow or warp" if used in lengths greater than 4' so better to keep the lattice sections no wider.
I'm assuming you want this fence 6' tall? In that case, you'd have to use 4' x 8' sections of vinyl lattice and cut them to the size you want with a circular saw.
We wanted to keep the fence lower at 4 ft the rest of the way down the yard to give a more open feel. I agree that the wood look is also more natural looking but since we already have the vinyl I am trying to keep it all one color.I will be putting some roses or bushes in front anyway to cut down on the brightness of the white.. My biggest issue with post and rail vinyl is the green wire mesh tends to bend and not lay flush to the 8 foot rails. Someone mentioned white lattice instead of green wire mesh between rails on the post and rail but not sure about that look either. I know there are different gage wires that can be used not sure if a heavier duty one will not bend as much and look nicer longer. The old wooden post and rail has the green wire mesh inbetween but the fence guy told me the wooden post and rails wood fades in time and the wire does not get noticed as much as the white post and rail vinyls where the wire stands out more.
