I see I am in very good company, Shoe...Now why didn't I know about this article earlier, and why can't I find more that you have written?
Loved the information, by the way. It's never too late to learn, even if I am reading this article a year later. So.. I am adding heirloom tomatoes to my list this year, maybe Mel will help me get started.
Thank you!

Heheheh...talk about "resurrecting the dead"! Yes, this is/was an older article, eh?
(It was written for the purpose of kicking off Gardens.com; sorry, haven't taken time to write more.)

Glad to hear you are gonna try some heirlooms. No doubt about it Melody will get you started but please feel free to holler if you need something she may not have!

Best,
Shoe

Heh, heh, heh, Shoe...found your article again, and yep!! Melody has started some heirlooms for me. Now to get them from her house to mine is a bit tricky cause I suspect she has that green house under lock and key. However, she has promised, and I happen to know Keith as well as I know Mel, so no problem. Also got some white half runners started, so along about July, you're invited...or maybe Christmas, you can come for some shucky beans and cornbread.

Just wanted you to know...

Yummy on the beans and cornbread! Thanks for the invite!

I know Melody will bring you some good heirloom plants, no doubt about it. Holler back and let us know all the details, right down to the flavor!

Speaking of plants, off to get some in the ground, more tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cukes, you name it!

'Tis the Season!

Thanks, Joyce. I've been in "article hibernation" since this one was written so seeing it pop back up is a treat even for me.

Seeds for any plants mentioned are now easily available online thru various seed stores/catalogs. Baker Creek ( http://www.rareseeds.com ), Tomato Growers Supply
( http://www.tomatogrowers.com/ ) are two that quickly come to mind. Other folks may have some different favorites they would like to recommend, too.

In your area it may be a bit late to start tomato or pepper seeds but there is still plenty of time to get some tromboncino sown!

Happy Gardening!
Shoe
